Re: Red Rattler Revamp
He's still around - lives around Kilmore area I believe - he popped in a while back and did some mechanic king for me on some troubles I couldn't sort on the ute - was meant to come back but not heard from him in a while - he pops up on the facebook page every now and then.
At first I thought it was your rattler Blacky - they must be pretty similar - the bloke driving is wearing a club shirt you have been sporting as well.

Re: Red Rattler Revamp
Today was the day

Got nearly a full day in , removed the auto and started the 5 speed conversion, the auto is going into a mates HR ute , I started by changing out the tail housing of the T5 I am using , this is a brand new housing same as a Chevy S10 5 speed that moves the shifter forward so a bench seat can still be used

Re: Red Rattler Revamp
That bit went on real easy , only problem is the speedo drive is in a different spot so I need to sort that out , next bit was to fit the bell housing and clutch that was bought - reluctantly - from our old mates at CRS .
Bell housing bolted up to the gearbox OK , except it is made of a new material called playdohnium, and one of the threads pulled out
, helicoiled it and that bit was sorted.
Then it was time to bolt it to the motor and the fun began - it was 2mm too narrow to fit onto the dowels on the back of the block - checked 2 other motors and it was the same on them as well ....... back on the bench and portapowered it to where it needed to be , plus chamfered the dowel holes to help them start. Pumped it out a few times, put a bit of heat on it to relieve it and nek minnit it fits , well - 3 of the bolt holes do at least .

Had to get the die grinder onto this one to get the bolt to start , needed a couple of MM to get it right .
Once that was sorted I installed the gearbox sans the clutch flywheel pressure plate and spigot bush to check the input shaft was correctly aligned to the rear of the crank. Looked close enough so it was just a matter of making up a crossmember to mount the box - fortunately the existing mount needed only minor mods to fit so we knocked off and had a beer

Re: Red Rattler Revamp
Great stuff Blacky,
There used to be a place in Sydney called Dellow, not sure if they still dabble in this sort of stuff still or even if they are still around, is CRS the only ones doing these castings ??
Its a bit of a shocker if nothing lines up, what a pain in the neck.
Progress at last Blacky, gee where does the time go !!!!

Yeah , I was looking through his museum with him a few years back , when we got to the Ardun flatty powered T coupe with no front brakes and rego plates I asked him how the hell he got that licenced and he told me it was a factory fitted V8 - I called him on his obvious bullshit , tour over !!!!SunnyTim wrote: Fri Jan 08, 2021 8:17 am Love your perseverence mate.
