Firewall grommet turned out to be easy to work. The rubber grommets and gaskets on this car are generally quite good, further evidence that it has been shedded for many years. Even the wiper bezel gaskets are in good shape.
Speedo cable and dash went in sweetly. No instrument lights and fuel gauge is showing over full. These are likely due to issues in other areas. Pretty happy with the days progress. I can move on to the steering wheel and horn.

More fun converting the front indicators. Existing plugs are single filament parker only and in as new condition.
Bult up a couple of twinnies from parts. 
GMH didn’t bother making left and right with different colour wiring it seems so they’re both light blue. It’s a wonder they bothered with using the single circuit fittings really.

Neat conversion, Clay.
Just had a look at my wiring and the schematic in the book. Found it interesting that the schematic shows the rh wiring as dark blue and the lh as light blue, all the way to the socket assembly. On my car the wiring is like the schematic up to the fender terminal blocks, then both are light blue on the socket assemblies like yours. I’m guessing this is so they could sell lh and rh socket assemblies as the same part number.

I had a couple of fb front indicator assemblies but one was corroded with the spring gone all together. So I re used a sedan wagon brake and stop socket. They’re identical and get an easy life in the boot.
Centred the steering box and put a wheel on. Buffing it up on the column didn’t feel right. I forgot the spring and possibly a shim or similar so off it comes again. Anyway I’m getting ahead of myself and should put the seat back first. That is a little way off as I need to strip and paint the floor first.
Took off the leaky front wheel cylinder. Harder than the rears because of the hose. I’ll drop it to nob end during the week. One thing about going there there is always an interesting car or two to spy there or at specialty tuning next door. Went for a coffee with the missus and tidied up a bit, reorganising my parts stash. Put a few unwanted sedan bits on gumtree. Busy week ahead so won’t get much done. Pretty happy with the weekends progress but wife is feeling unloved. How to convince her it is all for her?.......really.......

Got out the grease gun and gave the front end some attention. Managed to get some grease in to king pins, inner pivots inner tie rod ends, one of the outer tie rod ends and the idler arm bush. Outer pivots were resisting and I will have to pull them apart for a soak in kero and assess. I suppose if a part is worn then it should allow plenty of grease in. The years of dry storage hav3 probably just lead to things drying up and solidifying. One of the outer tie rod ends has the nipple on the bottom. I need to jack the front up slightly more or dig a hole in the hard stand carport floor. This one also has no grease retainer. It looks like it might be hard to separate, being pretty rusty.
Put some rims on the front and looked for any movement in pivots and king pins. All good. Slight play passenger side which feels like the wheel bearings, but could also be king pin perhaps. I will retension the hub and recheck.
Finally pulled out the seat belts. Apart from a seized Frankenstein’s bolt which I had to cut with 1mm blade on the grinder, they came out easily. Scraping back the floor, I found some very minor rust holes. Drivers footwell by the a pillar, same as on the passenger side. Driver side floor between inner sill and seat base, and passenger floor abutting inner sill. This is the full extent in the cabin and will be easy to patch up. Plan to do some more scraping, then wire wheel and molasses poultice for a week. Follow up with karcher then Ranex. Finish with metalshield or similar.
What do people do with the floor perforations which are sealed with tar from the factory? Thinking of welding them up.

Forgot to mention the light blue wire came in the post. Many thanks Rob. I was going to re-fit front indicator sockets without removing the housings, maybe some more plumbers sealant after the nitto tape to seal the back of the housing.
Lined up a spare grille from a guy at Salisbury on gumtree. Pick up tomorrow. Is $50 a good price? I thought it was.

Trevor the brake guy dropped my wheel cylinder in the letter box this arvo while I was out. Put back together, using a scavenged brass washer on the hose end. The new one from eBay went missing. Bled up ok on dusk but still some air somewhere I think. I’ll bleed the booster and four corners in the morning.
Repaired my broken tailgate handle by riveting on a bit of bent up 18# sheet. Piccies tomorrow.

The front indicator buckets came off easily so I will do a proper job on waterproofing the sockets. Mother is still in bed so I’m giving them a wash in the kitchen sink.

Busted two front indicator lenses putting them on
Pne of these I’ve been saving for 20 odd years. It looked perfect and may have been NOS from memory. Think I’ll just re-instal the buckets with out them.
My repaired tailgate latch
Finally got the inner panels out of the rear
Brakes are all bled up and seem ok although there is a bit of pedal travel. I will see how they are with manifold vacuum and adjustment after bedding in.
Started rubbing back the dark blue around the indicators with 400.
Realised the vertical post inserts are missing from the grille. Was going to take out the grille and think about painting the area behind in black, but bolts are very tight so I’ll leave it for now. Don’t want to go snapping heads off. Lucky I got that spare grille. I do have another somewhere but it doesn’t have those bits either and o reckon they make the thing.
