Omeo's great! As for the wildlife that can go suck a large one. Last time we were up there I lost an argument with one of the local greys. The only good thing was it was low speed. No one hurt.

I really recommend the drive from Bright to Omeo at least a nice in your life. The views are amazing, much like Craig's pic.
Speed and Style........... One day I'll get the speed bit.

I always enjoy seeing your pics!...Down the road from Omeo is the little town of Benambra, this old girl was sitting out the back of the local workshop, sitting just near the ute was an old speed boat fitted with a Cadillac side valve V8, from memory I think the owner said they pulled the side valve from a army tank.

From memory the garage was owned by two brother at the time. I tried to buy the ute, but they weren't selling.
The hull of the boat was hand built in aluminium, the motor was much the same, if not the same as the one in this pic.
I see the garage is on the market at the moment, listed with an agent in Bairnsdale.

Phil if its out of a tank then it could be one of three used in the AC1 Sentinel (Cruiser tank) built by GMH for WW2. They never went into production but a few survive around the world.

Diff centre in today.............how sweet is the sound of silence!
Started on checking valve guides due to this oil problem. Very disappointed to find No4 exhaust guide out past .005" clearance. Will be trying to find some suitable integral valve guide seals to isolate the gas leakage into the crankcase then I'll retest the crankcase pressure. I think this may be it................but I have said that before.
Sorry for the crap pictures. I need a new phone.

Engine out again. Found rear main rope seal has been spinning in the block. I'm not really liking these new graphite seals.
No4 cylinder seems the worst for carbon build up from burning oil. Pistons and rings look ok with no evidence of blow-by or lacquering past top rings. Compression on all cylinders was good when tested before Tassie.
Cleaned and de-oiled valve guides and stems, rechecked clearances and there's a few more out of spec. Also the tops of the guides have not been chamfered to prevent excessive oil being held around the valve stem.

Hi Craig,

Not sure if this will help or not, but the EH red motor brigade in historic racing have always had issues with to much oil getting in the rocker cover and not being able to drain back via the holes in the lifter galleries. Their solutions is to limit the oil by inserting pipe cleaners in the pushrods and to drain the oil back to the sump via the side plates. I can't remember what the grey is like in regards to priority oiling but from memory the breather pipe comes out of the side plate ? Could this be the issue ? Also I would be surprised if the sump was being pressurised by a slightly loose valve stem clearance, but you never know I suppose.
Anyway at it will be interesting if you find what the issue is.
