Smith beehive demister parts

Post by Len1969 »

Gidday all.
I'm new to the forum. I have a cameo beige 1961 Ek sedan hydramatic, untouched besides air shocks and chromies. I am about to install an old smith beehive heater and I'm chasing demister fittings if anyone one out there can help. Would love to keep heater original. Any help or information would be greatly appreciated. I'm in Australind. Thanks

G'day Len,

Original FB/EK demister fittings are fairly scarce. The little steel "vacuum cleaner head" parts that screw under the dash are pulling silly money on eBay. One option is to use the fibreglass repros that Ed Ho makes for FE/FCs:
http://fefcholden.org.au/forum/index.ph ... 716.0.html
These need a small plastic or steel plate glued on to change the mounting, but otherwise fit really well. I have a pair mounted in my EK wagon - almost hit the wiper arms, but not quite.

The demister ducts are generally easiest to replace with the type of tube used for late-model air cleaner connections to heat stoves (used to pre-heat air for cold starts). The wreckers are a good source, or you can get new duct from SuperCheap/Repco (limited to 1' lengths though). Getting exactly the right diameter is not easy - be prepared to adapt it using some black duct tape.

Cheers,
Harv

Yo..
Does anyone make or have the curved "vacumn cleaner " style head that actually screws onto the Smiths "Beehive" heater to feed the hose that goes up to the demister vents????

Hi Theo..
There was a bee hive heater with dash vents and the bit I am chasing on ebay a few weeks back.. forgot to bid... sold for $60.00
Will probably end up making one out of a vacumn cleaner nozzle :laughinggg:

I have a complete heater box out of a HR I reckon I could butcher up and fit up under the dash.. would have to flip the heater core over as the water pipes exit left side and EH exit right side...
fun and games for the average metal mangler.!!!

Reddo, Just take the core to a radiator place and have them spin the outlets around the way you need them. I modded mine cause the Beehive has them running straight out and I didn't want to put more holes in my firewall.
