Rim Colour for Cameo Beige EK

Post by Lowey »

OK, My first question to all those FB/EK gurus out there.

I'm contemplating putting a set of BF Goodrich Whitewall Radial 185/80R13 tyres on the EK.
Rims are currently white with standard hubcaps.
Need some feedback on whether i should change the rim colour (powdercoat) or leave as is?
Thought if i could reproduce the Cameo Beige in powdercoat that would suit it best.
Any other colour suggestions with this tyre/cap combo?

Thanks

I don't think wide whitewalls look good with just the hubcap, whatever colour rim. You need some sort of wheel trim to set it off

It's only got thin whitewalls, but I had to throw in my shitbox as well 8)

So now here comes the 101 questions.
I like the look of the thin whitewalls on yours aswell.
Whats the make size and where did you source them from?
Is that the standard cap with an additional wheel trim? Are there suppliers of these as repros?
Your front and rear mudflaps. Can you get these as repros?
Lastly, whats the rough pricing for the items I've mentioned above?

Thanks Cal for the pics too!

Maxxis 185/80/R13
I got mine from Fishers Ghost Tyres Campbelltown $140 each fitted.

Standard Cap and you might find the rims on eBay, how deep are your pockets?

Your front and rear mudflaps. Can you get these as repros?

Martin Figro at Obsolete Auto Rubbers does them I think about $320

Lastly, whats the rough pricing for the items I've mentioned above?

Thanks Cal for the pics too!

OK, here goes

Mine are Kumho 185/80/13. Cost me about $130 each around 4 years back from a tyre shop in Sydney. I'd say they cost a bit more now, though about a third the price of thick whitewalls. I don't think they make the Kumho ones anymore, though there are other brands.

Mine are standard caps, with the dress trims as an addition. Not easy to find, and certainly not cheap either. Ebay would be the best source. i bought mine for $35 from a swap meet. I've seen them go for over $400

The mudflaps I got off Ebay (front) and from a fellow forum member (back). Cost me around 100 bucks in total. There is a guy that makes repro versions, though they aren't cheap, around $400 I think.

You just need to be a bit patient and careful when buying accesories for these cars, coz the prices are all over the place.

Congrats on the car, BTW. Considering the recent prices being asked for these cars, you got a bargain

Far from it Wayne & Pete,
Just didnt want to push my luck with my first round of questions.

I would welcome any suggestions on what I can do to enhance the beauty whilst retaining originality wherever possible.

I think the whitewalls bring out the best in cars of this era.

I've got a mate whos a member of the EH car club and has 3 beauties in his garage and is a well known mechanic when it comes to pre 65 Holdens.
He's gunna give my new aquisition a once over and after that, i will definitely have a few more questions.

Dont worry, I will be a regular!

Nah, he's probab ly on Ebay as we speak, Wayne

It all boils down to what look your after. Some like their's to look stock, with no bling on them, while others like there's accesorized.

Youre on the money guys.

Does the term "rare as rocking horse poo" ring a bell for FB/EK parts hunters?

Nah, more so with sellers who are trying to get top dollar for their parts. You just have to look at Ebay to see what I'm talking about

Like I said, unless you've got money to burn you need to be a bit patient and shop around for certain parts

I dont want to flood it with every option available but more common sense stuff that I would have ordered if I was in that era and speccing up my new EK.

Patience is something i struggle with but I will just have to go with the flow and wait for those elusive bits.

I can fill my days in polishing my baby while i wait?

I'm with Tim, thin band as is will look just fine. The car doesn't really need much at all! Solid whites and a white rim in my personel opionion don't look so good, too much white and the rim/tyre blend together at first glance.
Speed and Style........... One day I'll get the speed bit.

After looking at a few pics and given the rims are white, the thin band looks more the part.

Thin Banded Whitewalls it is!!!

Now to find a mob in Melbourne that sells them.

There's Antique Tyres in Heidelberg (not sure on price?)

Any other suppliers in Vic guys? Costs?

Thanks
