Hate to ask but no idea its value.

Post by Mephious »

Hey guys hate to ask this,

Im pulling out the old running gear from my Ek panelvan.

Its got a 161 red motor (sounds lumpy) so im not sure if theres been some bore and port work. Has extractors etc , standard rockers and runs a 250 holley. It was sold with the description of a 179 bored 192 however.Havent pulled the block apart as its working fine and cant tell whats truly inside. Has an auto trimatic from a VK holden(im keeping the b&m shifter) and will come with the cross member ,has a HR banjo drum rear end (would say its a 3.38 ? hits about 120kms and starts to shake).

Engine has no problems , I believe the converter in the trimatic isnt correct as it will shudder in traffic due to heat ( needs to be slipped into neutral). Car drove from Melbourne to Sydney without a problem.

Reason for selling is only because I have a very nice 179 bored 192 from my red sedan which came out to make way for the V8. Gearbox is being upgraded to a turbo 350 and a 9inch diff is going in. Works being done for preparation of another 8 which will go into the van in a couple years time.

Anyone know what a fair price to sell the whole lot off from engine to diff? Have a local young guy interested in it all but I dont want to screw him over, just after what its value is.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hard to say really, I bought the radiator to tailshaft from an HK in really good running condition for $300. Then a year later picked up a 186 and reco trimatic (6 months old) for free....... :?
Speed and Style........... One day I'll get the speed bit.

Check the engine number, if it is a GTR motor you'll probably get a fair amount for it. I think the number has something like "2600S" in it.
Otherwise red sixes usually aren't worth too much, generally never over $200 for a reasonable second hand one.

G'Day Mephious,

Send me a PM with the engine number and I'll tell you what the engine was originally from.

It would'nt be an EJ number as they were grey motors.

If its a 161 it's most likely HK/HT/HG or LC Torana.

Cheers,

Terry.
I can't think what to write here so this will do.

Hahahahaha those lights will be going.

I have no camera mate unfortunately, why pics are so limited. Priority atm is to get the driveline done and the car engineered back on NSW rego.

Once thats out the way the van will go in for a respray and the tail lights will be changed. Have the panels already waiting to be grafted from donor utes.

Whilst the engine is out ill get the bay done however. Just cant work out what colour I want. I like the light blue ... one problem its &*#@ colour paint !!! I cant live with that. So its either back to original Catherine Biege ( looks to be an off white from what I see under the dash and behind the rear panels ) or go a wedgewood blue.

I do really like the light blue, soft compared to the dog dick red on the sedan.
