Yep,
Nothing like a bit of moisture in the air line.

The finish is the thing everyone looks at Stewart, don't rush it mate it will come together and will bring a smile to your face

Another update...A couple of weeks ago Dave came over to put the final coat of acrylic primer on...I hope you guys arn't too sick of seeing primer...

But time and the compressor (it kept tripping http://www.fbekholden.com/forum/viewtop ... =5&t=15913) got the better of us.

The fan didn't quite cut it...

Dave came over last Saturday to finish off the acrylic primer. It was a magical day for spray painting. Plenty of sun, warm, and just a breath of a breeze. Much better working outside rather than couped up in the garage. We got a few interested looks from passers by.

Rosco - you'll be proud of me - I picked up the spray gun for about 30 seconds and had a go and handed it back to Dave

So the acyrlic primer is all done and the best part was when Dave told me there was not more dry sanding to be done...woohooo!

The worst part was when Dave told me about all the wet rubbing...booohooo! Not far of colour now though...

I'm thinking of putting this stuff up on ebay but will offer it here first...

Mixed bag of sandpaper. Various grades in all shapes and sizes. One owner and most sheets only used for the one vehicle. Would suit first time car restorer or even just put it away for a spare. You never know when they might come in handy...

Bag of sanding dust. Mostly grey in colour. Probably weighs a kilo or two. Lovingly dusted up from the floor. Can post but would prefer pick up.

Any takers...?

Are you still working toward the nationals deadline? If Yamba had Malcolm's EK and Bendigo had Garry's black beauty then surely Mt. Gambier is awaiting Old Timer

I must be a bit paranoid or something, probably because I used to have a shit neighbour at one stage in my life, they would scream blue murder for just starting my car

Anyway Stewart it looks like colour soon and I'm sure it will look very nice indeed, well done.

Great work, Stewart - you are shortly to learn of that "mystical" guide coat ..... then you'll see just how well your dry sanding went..... I like the process - you are giving the "beneath" coats plenty of time to pull down .... I don't believe you can be anywhere near aware of just how good this finish is going to come up..... you'll start to get a bit of a "peek" when you guide coat it and then block it back... and guide coat it - and block back... the limit will be how far you are prepared to go - and how much primer you've put on......

And - 30 seconds... Stewart, if it were me - you'd have had 30 minutes...... spraying is a passion I have developed.... acrylic primer is the absolute best way to learn to achieve an even "wet" spray...... the only way you will ever learn to master it is by experience....

And..... your opinion on spraying?..... sure leaves those aerosol cans at the hardware store..

Great work, don't rush it - you've put far too much into this to punch it off the line now.... the best parts (excuse pun) of your restoration are yet to come... tears, Stewart - tears.... I can see them beginning to well up now...

I'm lucky to have a good neighbour Greg. He is always looking over the fence checking out what's happening and where it's up to and handing out free advice...

As a complete newbie at this, you are 100% correct Rosco.

Early on I realised I didn't have the skills and experience to totally do the rebuild myself but I still wanted to learn and be a part of the rebuild. So being in a car club, being on the forum, asking lots of questions and listening to the advice, reading and watching other rebuilds and surrounding myself with people who did know what they are doing has been the answer for me. Each step in the rebuild is new ground for me.

I can see how easy it would be to get hooked on spray painting. I've now owned Old Timer for over 10 years

and it's time to wrap up the 'journey'. Dave is doing a fantastic job and I can't wait for the colour.

This may have been partly due to other commitments and not being able to spend time on the car. I'm just back from our yearly pilgramage to your favourite part of the world - Yamba for 2 weeks. The Calypso is still there

I went for a run out to the end of the breakwall too. It's a magical place.
