Wow what a transformation Steve. Can you outline the steps you did to do this and the cleaning products you used?
Also I noticed on before pics the radiator hoses had the original clamps but the after pics had new ones? Any reason for not using the original clamps?

Step 1. degrease engine with degreaser.
Step 2. Wash engine bay with soapy hot water.
Step 3. 1600 sandpaper on rust spots (plenty of time and elbow work here as you need to sand the rust only)
Step 4. Kenco "Shift It" (plenty of time and elbow work here as you need toothbrush and a lot of time) We spent two days on this step.
Step 5. Buffing compound by hand gently.
Step 6. Mothers Scratch remover with a lot of hand rubbing.
Step 8. Preserve with WD-40
I removed the wiring carefully, the top radiator and support and horn for better access to front radiator suport side panels.
NOTE ... original Sydney cars have Colour crayon of paint name on right hand side ... be very careful not to wipe of polish this off.

Hi Stewart .... Wayne and my fingers are stuffed 
When we to the Croppa on it first trip since 1971 (the Sawtell Nationals 2011) The top hose was a little soft, so we swapped it out ... clamps and all. It will put the old clips back on ... now that you mention it

Steve , Im curious , what is the story behind the Blue sheathing/laggging on the wiring loom in the engine bay??

Hi TM, I haven't researched the blue on the looms on Sydney Standards for quite some time. I think I recall Sunny Tim's EK Standard Cameo having the same blue. That is also a Sydney car.

Is that No3 exhaust valve bent or just stuck open?
It looks to have been run stuck open for some time.

My 1960 FB ute is Perth assembled , with indicators and it had blue harness tape .............

thats some great info guys... thanks for sharing that. Which confirms my conclusion about my ute too. FB which has the black tape & blinkers fitted as an accessory see blue wire (this pix is from the resto)

The 'marks' on #2 are a convergence of camera flash. Look on #1 - it has a slight crescent pattern on it the second piston just has more light bouncing off the cylinder bore. Both are in the 9 0'clock to 12 o'clock position ie hit from the same angle when the flash went off. Easy !!!
Saw the engine bay first hand and it sure is clean as ! Don't know if my FB ute bay is going to come up that clean
