My FB Sydney county council ute

Post by bootlegger »

Ive been on this forum for a while. Ive Helped a few members with their cars and but ashamedly had been playing with everything other than FB/EKs.

Finally today I started on my FB ute project. Ive had this FB for a fair while now and only this week when I looked at the ID plate realised that it had stampings on it that I had never seen before.

After checking out the colour code and finding nothing on the forum I thought something is weird about this car. A quick call to Steve and He confirmed that this ute was an ex Sydney County Council car in their fleet colour of Silverpine Green.

The car was all sorts of colours but the majority was this green.

Now this ute is full of rust but I have another really clean body so Im going to transfer all the good stuff Panels etc onto this.
Today I got all the quarters straight and welded a couple of spots of rust.
The shell needs two floor pans, a couple of small spots in the sills, and thanks to Parisian 62 I now have a decent rear petrol tank floor section to weld in.
All the hanging panels are mint as is the subframe.

Hopefully by the end of the week Ill have the shell ready to prime.

Im not sure I like the colour but being so rare and none around I thought it would be cool to build one up. Hopefully Ill find a period pic of one and maybe they have some sort of signwriting on them.
I have a 55 international prime mover from Sydney county Council engineers. The signwriting on that looks cool so I may put those graphics on.

I have a set of mint 14 inch tasmans so they might find there way on it also :ewink:

Dont worry Stewart Ill be working on your car as well :D

I'll do the signwriting on it if you want me to, Dave.
'Bout time you started on the ute!! What's happening on the Van?
Good thing you hid the 14" Tasmans when I was around mate, other wise the Sputzwagon would be sporting them NOW!

Scotty the van will happen. I didn't realise the fb was what it was. It came with the van as a parts car.
I just got motivated when this real good ute shell turned up
I advertised the shell for sale on the forum but the beater that works for me talked me into doing it.
I'll take you up on the signwritting.
I bought the tasmans a few weeks ago. They are ones I havent seen before. They have a cut out on the spokes.

Nice one Stewart
The only Shield logo I can remember from my childhood ( going into SCC with Mun to pay the bills ) were in Gold leaf on the frosted glass doors! I recon you'de get away with the painted logo in off cream on the green ute, Dave. Waddaya think?

Stewart reckons he might know someone who might be able to find the colours of the logo.
I read up on the scc. They used to own the queen victoria building. The logo came about after a competition for a design.
I reckon the writing would have been an off white.
I finally finished welding up the rust in the sills and get the main body in hifill today. I'm stuffed
On monday ill start on the floors and get all the hanging panels in primer.
