Davet wrote:=0 no idea i havent looked for a aircon unit yet.. or a radiator...

i got my car in a million parts so i am just trying to get something done on it a bit at a time. i think i woulda been better of getting a complete one for my first renovator =\
If I was you I'd get them before you start cutting then. Otherwise you may end up having to rework things later, easier to do it now.

As for the firewall will look nice and stock. Good thinking.

well i drilled all the welds out on the battery box and removed it so i could get the SU's in place properly for a test fit and measure to cutout the firewall
i ended up not doing what i did in the photoshoped version above. it would have been way more room then neccesary so i only moved the firewall 1 inch.
ive still got a little more metal work to do on the top ive used metal i cutout of the gearbox tunnel and also the part i cutout of the firewall to do it as i didnt have any steel handy.. so its kinda a bit of patchwork which will take a bit of cleaning up but oh well.. i think its ok for my first every custom shaped metal  not as pretty as you guys do but ill try make it beautiful with the grinder and stuff before i ever get to the undercoat.

it also means i no longer have to modify my extractors yay plenty of room for those now.
i also fitted the master cylinder and clutch cylinder and pedal box.. i figure i may as well build the car now get it running and then pull it apart for paint.
any suggestiosn on what radiator to run?

Radiators, lots of choices but some require cutting. I'm running a triple core HT one. Just needed to prune the sides of the radiator support panel and redrill some mounting holes. I know of some running torana ones too. Choice is yours.

Too late for it now but you know you can get SU's with the float bowls on the other side?
Might help the next bloke I guess and sorry to come in late in the game on this point
Either way your progress is impressive and it looks as though another good ute will be hitting the road !!!

yeh im aware of the other carbs but i managed to get these for a good price and they are fully reconditioned top to bottom and they came on a new manifold.
i also have a set of triple strommies on a cain manifold i got with the motor too, still dunno if ill end up running those yet depends if the SU's give me to much hassle. but i made the modification regardless thats way if i end up with the strommies on and want to go back to the SU's i can.

so i finished this up today the last little shape was a bastard to make. lol and i mixed to much hardner into the bog and it went hard before i could get it smoothed out lol. soo much sanding. it looks pretty good i think. i have sealed it with some primer for now but when i pull the body apart to paint it at the end ill have to resand and clean it up a bit more to smooth it out nicer. but im happy with it.

Fair call Dave - if the dollars are right you can do anything eh!

The reworking of the firewall will really look the business once all the bog work is finished but I agree with Mick re the full welds - nothing an angle grinder won't fix. Any reason for just tacking up?
