Tow Bar??

Post by muza »

Not sure that this the right place for this, but I'll try!
Just wondering if anyone can tell me if this is a proper tow bar for an FB, or a home made job. I realise some probably were homemade, but on mine the bottom of the bumper appears to have been 'pushed' out to accommadate the tow bar

Muza,

Doesn't look like a home-made job - most home-made ones that I have seen don't bother to bend the drawbar (it's a big bend to make in a backyard vice with a 4lb lump hammer  ). The single bracket is a bit unusual too - normally there are two brackets to mount through the floorpan. Are there any marks that show a second bracket has been removed?

FB/EK drawbars normally tuck up nicely behind the rear bumper bar without having to move it. Having said that, it doesn't look like the FJ/EH/EJ/HR bars that I have photos of (been stashing away photos of towbars with a view to writing an enthusiasts guide one day  ).

The thread below may help on dimensions:

If you get chance, I'd love the dimensions please (run a tape-measure over it and use the dimensions from the link above) .

Cheers,
Harv

Well mate it looks as though we have 2 completely different tow bars!
Mine's dimensions are:
A 41 1/2
B 8 1/2
C 6 1/2
D 5 1/4
E 4
F 1 3/4
G 1 3/4
H 2
I 2 1/2
J 2 1/2
K 3/8
L 3/8
There are no marks where another of those brackets have been taken off, this one appears to have been put on by someone other than the person that welded the tow bar. The welds on the bar itself are very neat but the bracket looks like someone gave up trying to weld after tacking it on  terrible weld.
The tow bar sat very neat 'under' the bumper, its just that the bumper has been pushed out a bit. I'll post a pic of the bumper a little later.

Thanks Muza - I'll file the pics and dimensions away for when I write the document (playing with carbies at the moment :egeek: ).

Had some crappy welds on mine where someone mounted a trailer plug bracket... made my welding look good  .

Cheers,
