Can I convert a trmiatic floorshift to column??

Post by stucross »

Hi all,

I have a trimatic auto with a floor shift behind a red motor in an EK sedan (originally column manual) I'm wanting to move the interior back to original and put in the old bench seat. Is it possible to change the shifter to the column and if so - how?? :? :? :?:

Do I need to change the steering column to an auto and is it possible to get this type of linkage ??

It is possible.

Ask J - he has a column operated trimatic is his EK.

I believe he used a standard EK Auto column.

As for you wanting to install a bench seat, why can't you do so already? I had an EK with a trimatic in it and it had a bench seat.

I am doing the same to my sedan now (floor shift to column shift), you will need an auto column EK EJ HD HR will all fit.

awesome!! thanks guys. Great tip with the compatible columns Trev - good to know. 8)

excuse my ignorance, but just so I have it clear in the old melon :)

1. if I get an auto column out of say a HR - do you change the whole thing right down to the steering box? and if so does the HR steering box attach straight onto the EK drag link??

2. does the orginal EK steering wheel go straight on to the new HR column??

Thanks for your help mate

They are not collapsable, change the whole thing.

You also need to check that your trimatic has the shift arm on the drivers side - if its a later one on the passengers side of the box then its going to make life harder for you.
I started with nothing and still have most of it left.

you can also save yorself alot of drama and just move the shift forward on the floor so it clears the bench seat
sometimes yor just better off shitting in yor hands and clapping

You might have a slight difference between the wheel and the honey pot, not sure if they are a match :? .

ive got a HR auto column in my ek sedan and a ek steering wheel
wont fit on it :(
the HR column is quite a bit shorter and takes the wheel away from your face and chest
wich is a good thing :)
also the bolt holes in the sub frame need to be filed out slightly to line up with the holes on the sterring column
:)
