if you're going to bare metal it's probably easier to just hit it with paint stripper before sanding or hitting it with a wire brush, worked quicker for me and doesn't gouge anything out - just be careful near the factory lead work ( the shop manual will show you where these bits are)
'The best engine in the world is a vagina. It can be started with only one finger. It is self-lubricating. It takes any size piston. And it changes it's own oil every four weeks. It is a pity that the management system is so f*$king temperamental.'

Yep, I second that..... Pull the chrome of before going anywere near it with the orbital sander (or infact, any! form of sanding)
might wanna (carefully) pull the glass off too!!!

Arm yourself with paint stripper, a few disposable paint brushes, lots of rags, turp's (makes wiping the stripper of a breeze and leaves an oily residue behind - slows down the surface rust from appearing before you start priming) and make sure you do it in a ventilated area wear goggles, gloves and a respirator! :)
much quiker than sanding, for stubborn areas such as old bog pack on the stripper and cover it with glad wrap, it will concentrate the effect!! :)
