Our "New" Car!

Post by Doc Bob »

Gudday guys & gals,
Thought I'd better make an introduction and throw in a few pics of our latest addition to the fleet.
The missus is sick of driving around in her classic :?: EB F#@* Falcon wagon, so I looked at replacing it with something more stylish and reliable........a 50 year old HOLDEN

It took a fair bit of searching to find the right vehicle, it was always going to be an EK Wagon, but where to get a decent one that has not seen 30 different owners with 10 different layers of paint/bog and in original condition with updated running gear!
A very tall order, but I somehow stumbled across this beauty :D

I went to have a look at a "project" wagon, but was a little too far gone and I already have a line of projects down the shed being worked on, so gave that a miss.
But while there I seen the front of an EK on a hoist around the corner af a shed.
Asked the bloke what it was, he said another wagon, but was not for sale :(
He only just picked it up and did not want to sell, but after seeing under it on the hoist and checking it all out thouroughly, I just had to have it, it was everything I had been looking for.
Anyrate....a few deals and days later, it was being delivered to our shed!

Once home, went all over it and was suprised to find everything in very good condition and no nasty's hidden anywhere. Even has quite a few new parts fitted as well.
What she is........1962 EK Special Station Sedan
98k original miles
Ex country car.........f'all rust, but plenty of stone chips!
Original body/paint/interior
186 Red motor, m21 4 speed, Torana radiator.
1 tonner floor shifter (clears bench seat)
HR Disc front end, VH40 booster, HR Diff/brakes.
Alloy tank (farmer must've put a star picket through the old one!)
13x6 ROH reversed rims (original, stamped Nov 1969!)
RUST!Sweet F'all :o One spot on top RHS fender where someone decided to poke a screwdriver through it  and one 10c piece very bottom corner of LHS wheel arch. (50 years of stone chipping will do that!)
Other wise completely solid and rust free floors/sills/doors/boot/roof/windows/seals.
All I have done to the vehicle is a quick tune up, sanblasted and painted rims/new tyres and replaced the fuel cap, even came with 10 months rego :!:

Well, here are some pics of the old girl..........

I won't say exactly how much we paid for it........but it was under $6ooo effin BARGAIN
Current plans for the next few months are a respray in the original color, knock a few inches out of the front end  and tint the windows. Other than that, we'll just keep driving her!

Great to be on the site, hopefully catch up with a few of the W.A. members around the streets..........cheers, Bob.

Thanks Guys..........yeah, VERY happy with the old girl, so is the Missus!
You're right Blacky, it was a STEAL :P
I could not believe it myself when the bloke named his price. I was prepared for quite a shock, but I think he knew it was going to a good home.
Scotty; Love the OldSkool reverse rims, look just that right style for the era.
The young apprentice wheel fitter had a hard time though!
A day after getting the new tyres fitted, one broke off the bead and went flat.
Back to the tyre joint and found out that when he went to put the 4 new tyres on, first rim on the machine he put hub facing up as you normally do, could'nt get the tyre to go over the bead and actually snapped the bead cord  Only then did he go see the boss and found out what "reversed" rims actually meant
samprinci/Brodie; It's an EH convertable....or Roadster, 2doors and no roof.
Yes I have it at the drags for tow duties or use my Satin Black 68 Fairlane.
(maybe the wagon one day!)
I'm Crew Chief/Mechanic for my mate that runs the Nitro Vinyl T- Bucket Altered in Modified division. It's the quickest naturally aspirated stock 308 in the country, 9.56 @ 228 Kmh. on BP premium unleaded pump fuel :o
Although most people remember us for the back up girls more than the car itself

Thanks for the interest guys, I'll post more pics as we progress with the paint etc.

'll tell you something funny about reversed rims!.

In the early 80's Mate saw this add in the trading post for widened rims, which he was keen on. Said do you want to come and have a look. When we got there I noticed the rims had been widened and reversed.
This is when I popped the million dollar question.

The reply:
A Fella who worked at Morton and Wheels was peeded off with this one particular customer, who kept coming in time wasting. A mate said to him why don't you get your rims reversed.
They shore did, left the tyre valves on the inside so you couldn't pump them up.

He didn't buy them,
There's nothing as Sweet as a EK V8

Sorry Sam, had the EH nearly 13 years and have pretty much no pics of it!
Only drive and enjoy it, not too much time taking photo's of it :o
I might take some when I wash it next and post up.(In the shed covered in dust & shit atm.)
Oldnek.....   that's the first thing I checked too.
Once seen a bloke at a servo years ago on his back under a nice looking FC Sedan with an air hose in his hands.
I think I was the only bystander that understood what he was actually doing
Some more pics.........This is where someone decided to use a screwdriver to see how deep the rust was  As you can see, it was only surface rust
Image
This is the only other rust........50 years of stones getting thrown at it :!:
Image
And a view inside the back.......

Thanks for the comments guys.............Bob.
