Carby Fuel Problem

Hi,
can anyone offer any advice please.
My EK with a standard Grey motor has a surging problem at low revs and low speeds. (Ie: The car surges).It doesn't give me any problems at highway speed, mainly around 60k's
I took the carb to a carby place and he says he pulled it apart and cleaned it and it ran no better if not worse.
I then took the car back to show him so he asked me to take the carb off then and there and he put in a larger fuel jet in the bottom of the carb and it solved it about 80%.
Would an ever bigger jet solve this problem?
I have done the timing, new plugs, points, condenser, rotor cap, dist cap.

Have you checked for any leaks in the manifold? Sounds like it might be sucking in air from somwhere else.

I'll check it oit. It may have a crack in it. Although I don't hear that typical manifold gasket noise.

The carby can leak from the shaft if it's old and worn.

Grab some rp7 or wd40 and start spraying Paul, you'll know if there's a leak the rev's should go up.

Thanks guys, the carby shaft is a good fit. I'd replaced the bottom end of the carby with one off a wreck that had minimal slack. The previous one was worn on the lever side.
Devilrod - you mean spraying WD40 down the carb throat whilst running? or the outer housing of the carby, thereby sealing any leaks (for the revs to rise)?

Spray on the outside to see if there are any leaks.

Yep as Trev said outside and if there is a vacuum leak the revs will increase as it sucks in the wd40 or rp7.

i think you guys were on the money. The problem is mostly gone by tightening the manifold bolts! thanks!

Just make sure the carby is bolted down too.
