hub cap painting. SOLUTION

Post by Timmy »

Hi all, I just received back from the electroplaters my set of hubcaps for the ek. just wondering if anyone has had any experience on repainting the grenadier red behind the lion, especially with regards to masking up. I have thought of tape and a scalpel and also using Vaseline. hoping someone has had some experience in this area.

I'd rather drive something made of metal, not plastic!

Righto, through a little trial and error, and a handy brother in-law, I have found a way to do this right. First I masked around the ring with fine line tape where the lion sits and masked up the remainder of the hub cap. With a can of etch primer then Grenadier Red acrylic mixed from my local auto shop I sprayed the center of the hub cap over the lion and all. Gave it a few coats of the red. Once completely dry, we used a tiny buffing wheel on the Dremel Multi Tool to buff the red off the lion, working really carefully not to buff any paint off within the lines of the lion. The result worked out really well, hope this helps anyone else out haven't had a chance to post any pics yet, see it in the flesh at all holden day.
