WALLY'S EK
Re: WALLY'S EK
Tidy work Rob. What is the finish on the tins? Looks a bit like they've been wiped with deoxidine. Black enamel rattle can on the other bits?

Re: WALLY'S EK
Tins were electroplated which should keep them nice for a while - yes VHT rattle can satin black on the others - the vht has a really good finish and coverage Ive found

Dropped this old thing off at the blasters with a heap of parts - hopefully it comes back all bright and shiny new

Re: WALLY'S EK
If it is of help to you... to preserve those tins.... many people cut the bottoms off small plastic drink bottles and fit them over the cans.... they are removed for shows etc etc.... this protects them from the elements and also gunk from the engine bay area getting on them.... these small bottles will not affect how they function at all..FJWALLY wrote: Thu Jan 30, 2020 9:52 am Tins were electroplated which should keep them nice for a while - yes VHT rattle can satin black on the others - the vht has a really good finish and coverage Ive found

The High note came up so well I had to do the Low to match - good stuff the spray stripper - quick and very effective

Also sat the wray drive pulley in place to see if all as planned - will have to lose the fan i think as Ill need an inch or more of spacer to clear it which will be right on the radiator - is there such a thing as a retro looking thermofan?

Re: WALLY'S EK
It gets mighty tight in there with a twin V-belt and tensioner:FJWALLY wrote: Sat Feb 01, 2020 3:13 pmAlso sat the wray drive pulley in place to see if all as planned - will have to lose the fan i think as Ill need an inch or more of spacer to clear it which will be right on the radiator - is there such a thing as a retro looking thermofan
To quote Eldred:
"Now quite possibly the fan will get partially in the way of the extra belt. This means that it must be moved towards the radiator to give belt clearance behind it. Probably this will bring it too close to the radiator for safety. Now either you move the radiator forward, (there is usually some latitude in this respect, and even a quarter of an inch can be useful), or you reduce the pitch on the fan blades. Where twin belt drives are involved you will almost certainly have to do both."
One trick is to move the radiator to the fore side of the radiator support panel (instead of the aft side). A little messy, but buys a lot of clearance. Another trick is to use the tensioner to push the belt waaaaayyy out of the way (instead of letting it make a more natural loop).

Re: WALLY'S EK
I wonder if i could get 20mm taken off motor side of rad support and set the brackets back same amount if that would work? Would be hard to tell to untrained eye - certainly better than a thermo fan for looks?

What spacer is that Harv - off the shelf or a made up one?

Re: WALLY'S EK
Graeme Tyler used an early Camry pair front mount. All metal, painted satin black. Not period but unobtrusive.
Interesting question, when thermo fans were first used.
