I reckon you are talking about the lip around the bumperette corners. There is a rubber flap that stops any thing flying up between body and bumper from factory, which is held in place by pinching the lip against the body with a punch. These are common to FE FC commercial and very similar to the sedan and wagon. Maco on the FE FC forum manufactures repros of these. The FB EK sedans and wagons have a similar but different setup due to the different tail lights. Sorry if you already knew all this or if I am on the wrong track altogether.

Yes the lip below the lights is for a bumper rubber - helps prevent mud and stuff getting up into the bumper corner - I have a set of the FE repros - just need to trim down - Harv was going to see if he could find a template as he had done same - weren't you Harv

You just need to cut a hole on the outside of the door and shape for the lock and everything else is there.....
I just had a thought (time to worry now!)
How hard would it be to set up remote locking for the doors with the right side remaining bare (ie standard factory - no RH lock) while keeping the existing LH as a back up in case of solenoid failure ?
That would be a win / win.
I'm clueless on how to do something like that but I bet someone knows

Yep did it on my ek ute. Pull a door card off then press the outside door button to see where you need to pull the door mech down vertically from inside the car.Buy a 2 door remote actuator kit on fleabay , fit it then all good!
yeah but then you need run power so will have cables through near hinges somewhere.
I think the one small lock barrel wont impinge too much on the look - there is no flash kit or anything like that on this ute but there is a couple naaco bits and pieces added but only top guard spears and sun shade so one little lock barrel surely wont unbalance that - in fact I'm a bit Virgo in that I like balance so having one on the left and not on right will no doubt trigger my OCD.
Motor being cleaned up and re-sprayed - chrome at platers - found a guy that does the gauge packs as well with correct fluro paint - interior ready to go in - and we should be starting to go back together in the next couple weeks.
Ive had a door card guy working on trying to replicate the standard door cards but he gave up - just couldn't get the weld lines to work - they are more complicated than the special apparently - he tried 4 different sets of tooling but no good so I'll have to settle for a set of special cards but they should work well in with the seat which is two tone anyway - matched colours with armrests also.
Big apology to Russell as the trimmers have been mucking about so long I haven't been able to get everything sent up to him but I'll make it up to him with a little surprise.
With the central locking i just put the actuator rod on the holden put lock rods in the door. dont worry about going to the actual key barrel lock.

Does that make them any more secure - the week spot was always the pull up tab I thought - well thats how I used to break into them back in the day anyway lol

i know what you mean about that with new cars but for the old car I wouldn't have thought just central locking was for theft prevention by itself but more ease of getting in and out with the friends and family or central locking with an alarm for theft prevention, there is only one barrel lock anyways so the other doors will still have the " week spot "
I should have noted that mine with central locking also is part of the alarm with 4 door sensors and break glass etc so if the lock was to be pulled up once the door is open, put your ear plugs in.

Nice - It is certainly a consideration for security - I'm installing a gps tracker but had not thought on an alarm just yet - what brand did you use asa matter of interest and have you found it trouble free?

i can't remember the brand but it works a treat no issues so far, i had to install the two rear door switches ( interior light door switches) as the fb only have them for the front doors. i have a gps tracker as well no amount of insurance can replace the car, time and effort we put into these old cars.
