Brake booster query

Post by Grimbo »

On my 308 V8 van, I've mounted a HQ master cylinder where the original was. I then have a remote brake booster mounted underneath drivers side guard. I was wondering if there are any standard booster that can be mounted to the fire wall without interfering with the bonnet hinges.
Thanks Sam

Gday Sam
Front mounted bonnet springs dont interfere with the brake booster!

 Forward tilting bonnet

what is the reason sam? if it's so front and back brakes go through the booster, on the ute we put a 308 in i had the same setup you describe dual circut master cylinder on firewall with booster under the guard and the booster only running the front brakes, we had drum brakes on the rear and ran drum brake, brakes (if that makes sense) with this combo we had real good brakes

No real reason ratbox, just thought that having everything in the engine bay would be easier. Looks wise I think that the booster up under the guard is the go. I'll probably just boost the fronts and play around with wheel cylinders on the rear if need be. Thanks for the advice.
Still unsure on what to do with the van, my wife and I have decided to have a second child so I'll probably let the van go in favour of a wagon or sedan, for family cruising.
I'll just play it by ear.

I've heard that some engineer's don't like the booster under the guard because there's nothing to protect it from being hit by flicking off the front tyre, have you checked with your engineer?

No dramas at all with the engineer, I had the booster mounted and showed him when he came and did the prelimanary inspection.
It'll probably stay as is, seeing I've already set it up this way. I was just fishing for other ideas.
