G'day all,
What would have been the original colour of the rims on my EK? The body is parisian lilac and roof is snowcrest white…
Would the rims have been either of those colours or just ‘white’?
Regards
Stewart

Taking a complete guess here Stewart but having a white roof I'd say that the wheels would have been white as well. That said, my FB standard sedan in Lucerne Blue has rims painted in Lucerne blue.My Valetta Green EK sedan has Valetta green rims. Both cars are original and both are all over colors (no white roof).
I have another EK body here that was a Dark Green (can't remember the color ) with a white roof and it has white wheels.
Based on the colour schemes of the above cars and my recollections of FB/EK/s as a kid when they were everywhere I'd say that the rims were painted the same colour as the roof.Seems to make sense to me.
Opinions of others??.....................
Terry.

I can't think what to write here so this will do.
Hi Guys.
The question has no one-line answer. It did vary from factory to factory, I'm not sure there is any firm rule. Generally speaking most FE to HR wheels are painted the same colour as the roof, except for Premiers. Premiers all have black wheels, except EJ which have body coloured wheels.
98% of the early Holdens I've seen conform to this rule, but there are always exceptions. I've seen 2 identical FC Specials, both low mile one owner cars, with the same '59 scheme of light blue over dark blue. One car had light blue wheels & one car had dark blue wheels (including the untouched original spare wheels). On further investigation, the car with the dark blue wheels was a Melbourne car & the other a Sydney car. I've seen an EJ with a green roof over a white body, with white wheels.
Another thing also is that the wheels are finished in a different type of paint, that discolours with age at a different rate to acrylic (especially white). If you look at the white paint on a roof, compared to the white on the wheels, the wheels are often more 'yellow'.
Does this answer the query.
