Grey Motor Holdens

Post by gordon »

Since I've had my EK the oil light was coming on when it was hot at idle, would vanish with any increase in revs, which is OK in the GM Workshop Manual... But it sounded like the crank was a bit loose,so rather than just leave it I decided to renew the crankshaft bearings and oil pump gears...
So I blocked up the motor and trans.dropped the crossmember down a bit, removed the sump, It is a Recond. engine, but they put a gasket in the oil pump end plate, making excess clearance on the oil pump gears and loss of oil pressure?
I think FX-FJ oil pumps had this gasket but the pump body had a recess for it,so they include it in the gasket kits for Grey Motors
Anyway I think not too much damage done,so I renewed the crank bearings removed the gasket from the oil pump and it all seems fine now

what condition where the main bearings in that you removed ... that will probably tell the tail if there was any damage.
