go the wagons....
Sorry for the delay - was on the turps last night watching the NRL.
All triple webbers I have seen for sale range roughly from $1000-$1500, the $1500 set was all polished nice fuel lines/linkages etc.
Delortos however dont come along often only know of one set which sold for $1250. They rarely go for sale as it doesnt get much better for natural asp then those.
Next step from them is Supercharger or Injection/turbo ... all = headache/exspensive

thanks for the reply team,
hey trev & nomad WHERE ARE YOU...
in your experience...
is there a set up that you could recommend for someone looking for a engine which gives the old girl a bit of bite, yet still does'nt burn a hole in my pocket with fuel prices going, going, going up...
i dont mine spending a bit up front if it'll save me down the track...
so far my thoughts are...
TREV SAID, 186 with mods, in his experience the efi 202 was much thirstier than his current 186 with mod's + holley...
this a photo i took at the 2007 ek nats @ forbes, the car is the GSAC off white wagon with the red roof (looks like devilrods)

NoMAD SAID (alot, but basically), efi 202 (to deal with my concern of unleaded fuel and more grunt), 186 with mods (as this is a much cheaper option as there is a budget of around $2000. or v6 (which headded that it was the best answer for power & economy, but also said that it would cost alot more upfront...

matty....
G'day mate first of all i'm in Perth, so a hell of a long way away....
i was planning on getting back to you this morning...
as smooth has said from what i've seen the tripples would need more firewall mods than my turbo!
matty it all comes down to what you want....your wagon's got a theme going with it are you trying to continue that through out the car including the engine bay, or just on the outside?
As i've already said to you i'm not a EFI based person, i prefer carbys - compared to other motors, red's can be set up decently - cheaply!
If you can't afford the V6 transplant, i would suggest the best option would be sticking with the 186, maybe even source another motor/block while yours is in the car so you dont have to take it off the road,
would go for -
no engine fan and not orginal air cleaner
electronic dizzy off a blue motor and good leads!
extractors, cam, good set of timing gears
yella terra head, valves, roller rockers (if can be obtained within budjet) head setup for unleaded,
and for a carby choice (from my experience) a set of twin's (either stroms or SU's) if tuned correctly sound and perform awesome....
now other people may have different opinions but this has worked for me, i haven't done all these mods to the one engine - all though my turbo one will be close when its done!
anybody want to change or add to anything i've suggested?
Cheers

Also if you want the performance and have upped the anti on the engine specs. But don't want the hassle of multi carbs. A 4 barrel is a better way to go. They give some reasonable economy IF you keep your foot out of it and run around on the primaries and tuning wise is alot simpler. But we are talking about an Xu1 spec type red or greater.
Speed and Style........... One day I'll get the speed bit.

i was gunna mention the four barrel holley
i had a set of twin su's once, to me they were a pain in the arse could get great down low and nothing up top or the other way round couldn't get anything in between
put a four barrel on and the car went better than it ever did
but that's not saying they can't be made to run well
something else to consider the jap supercharger setups never had one but spoken to people who have they say drive normal no excess fuel or anything, but if you want power stand on it and it's there

MAybe hit some swap meets and try and pick up a Edelbrock 4 barrel 500cfm. The bonus with these are one gasket, easy to jet and smaller primary's than running a 350 holley. Which eqautes to reasonable economy when driven sensibly. Or look for a Carter or qjet, these were recommend by Quick 6 in Dandenong years ago and these guys specialised in the holden 6.
What gearbox are you running behind the red?
