5 speed conversion to grey motor

Post by Blacky »

Bought this Borg Warner 5 speed box a year or so ago to put into a mates EK sedan - he wants to keep the grey but fit a 5 speed box behind it which I think is a great idea but I don’t want to chop the floor in my ute up………

Figured was gonna need an adapter plate so got them both on the bench to nut out how to do it

Started by tracing an outline of the stock box -

Then overlaid the new box over that

Ended up with this - plan is to convert this drawing into a DXF file then have it laser cut out of 10mm plate and mill 10mm off the bottom half of the 5 speed bellhousing- none of the bolt holes clash so should be able to bolt this adapter to the gearbox , use stock engine mounts and clutch slave etc.

Sweet as. I’m in your camp on the floor mod. Five speed with original grey and rear end would be perfect.

A bloke over here fitted a Holden Shuttle 5 speed and column to an EK van - gives you a 5 speed column shifted box - but try finding a Holden Shuttle nowadays …..

Try Lawrence at Speeds Spares in Mitchell, ACT. My radiator cowl came from a wrecked Shuttle in his vast collection.

He used to wreck hundreds of holdens a year and has a huge shed of bits. Summernats peeps have a pilgrimage there every January.

It won't Mick, this is for a mates car - I would like to do it to my ute but I don't want to cut the floor

The top half of the bellhousing is identical barring the third hole for the grey motor starter motor - will use the grey starter as it has the correct pinion gear for the grey flywheel.
