SU identification

Post by Errol62 »

I’ve been on the lookout for a set of triple SUs to go in the van, and could not pass these up. Image

They appear to be new although dirty from sitting around. Internal float bowls and jets. They are on a Lynx manifold for Chrysler Hemi.

Thats a problem Clay, they won't fit onto your red head !!!!

I had SUs on a 186 many, many moons ago and they made a huge difference to the car, balancing air flow and fuel between them evenly is the challenge. Once thats achieved they are great, good on fuel as well.

Chop chop to the firewall if you run filters from memory ??

They are HIF44 (mm) 1 3/4" SU's. Good carbs with the integral float bowl which eliminates leaks and allows easy idle mixture adjustments. The are also very good for maintaining good mixture control during surge conditions due to the central jet design. I rate them as the best of all the SU versions.

What engine are you putting them on? I ask as triple 1 3/4" carbs is a lot for holden sixes unless heavily worked.

I’ve already got a set of HS6, older style SUs on the 179 in the ute Greg. They certsinly woke it up. These are ostensibly for the 12 port allegedly going in the van one day. Redline had a manifold they stated suits 9 and 12 port at one time, but Sonic Injection are apparently doing a run of Armours style individual runner type to suit 12 port. They will definitely require some massaging of the firewall. I
With the red head I used a swept runner Warnerford Design manifold. Think these were designed for EH. Slight recess required to run rear filter, though there are offset filter bases.

Thanks Craig, I figured you would know. I have HS6 x 3 on my mildly worked 186 and love them. These are to go on a black 202 with auto and tallish gearing. If I can get the tune right I believe they will work very well.
