red engine and auto conversion

Post by matty_c »

Hey Tigers!

Firstly, my first submission so hope I do OK!

Have just bought an orignal EK, dark green, 138 and 3 speed coloum shift. I use the car as an everyday driver to do the 20k communte to work and back. I also will drive to the coast frequently so would prefer highway capabilities.

I am trying to find someone in brisbane who do a drive in/ drive out conversion to a HR front end (discs) and a red (blue???) engine. Size doesn't worry me, ie 173/ 179/ 186/ 202, as long as it runs nicely.

Also, an auto (trimatic?) or a 4 speed coloum shift? I would prefer to use a different box and keep all the original gear aside.

A toyota 5 speed isn't out of the question,as long as I have high ratio (3.08:1, 2.73:1, etc)

I want to drop the car off and pick it up 1-2 weeks later with disc brakes, a bigger engine and a new gearbox, engineer approved and right to cruise.
I need to know approx how much and who!

Help. As you can se, I have no idea and have got myself in WAY to deep!

Matt.
Don't blame me, blame Physics, Officer!

Naaah it aint that bad. Sounds like a good car. But there are a few things to consider. The swap to an Auto will invovle the trans tunnel to be made bigger. You will most likely want to change the diff too. A drive in and drive away job won't be cheap. Down here in Melbourne you would expect to pay around the $6-7000 engineered drive-away and thats using second hand parts not reco.

It might be cheaper if you can source all the parts yourself and then get someone to do the conversion. Or if your are lucky and get a HR front end already setup for an EK, maybe try it yourself???

Either way its fun.....

Oh yeah, do a search on the forum as the conversion has come up a little bit on here and I'm sure alot of questions you need answered have been.
Speed and Style........... One day I'll get the speed bit.
