Only coil I could lay my hands on was the later type, which I had to fiddle up a plug and mount for. It took me until 9:45pm to get it back up and running, and ready for tomorrow mornings club cruise to Yankalilla.

Good to see you got it going again. Did it behave today?

I made the cruise, but it wasn’t behaving. The fuel pump was only a patch up job. NOS black motor pump going on. I will have to bend up a different pipe for it. Easy and satisfying job.

Fuel pump seems ok at the moment. I got a new oil filled 45kV coil and changed the cap and leads. Went for a 5km drive and all seems good.

These 195/70R14s going on the ute are very close diameter to the 185/80R13s now going on the sedan. Image

The 179 continues to randomly start spluttering and carrying on as previously. I checked the timing and deleted the vacuum advance. No difference. Inside cap looks fine. I have a new genuine Bosch ignition module on the way.

Doesn't sound like it could be, but for the cost, new plugs?
I chased my tail for 2 weeks on the Ghia - rebuilt the carbies, new electronic dissy, coil, etc. etc. only to discover it was the plugs. And that was after swapping them around early on to test (missing mainly on cylinders 2 and 3). Cross threadied number plug in the process  At this point I left them where they were because it had to be something else. Right?
No - exhausted all other options, braved replacing them (number 1 didn't strip when I installed the new one so leaving it for now). Turned the key and purrs like a kitten.
Best 30 dollars I wish I had spent to begin with.

I feel your pain, man.

The new pickup coil for the wagon arrived this week. It was supposed to be Tridon. Fairly major seller, located in Queensland. Seller called me, the part has been obsolete for a while, but he has a Tridon coil exactly the same, only comes complete with the reluctor wheel. A long conversation with me trying to hold my patience. He swears the part is genuine Tridon. I finally give in (I want the wagon back on the road) and pay the extra $30 for the coil-plus-reluctor. Part arrives, open the packet, and it ain't Tridon. Called Tridon and sent them photos, and they confirmed the same. Suspect it is either someone selling knock-off stuff under Tridon's name, or a bait-and-switch exercise. Still counting to ten before I either install the new knockoff part or go and find another NOS one somewhere.

Cheers,
Harv
