Hi Clay.

I went through a somewhat similar exercise over ten years ago where I thought I had a noise coming from the harmonic balancer. I changed it out because it was loose, but the noise was still present until I identified there was significant end play issues with the distributor which was causing the noise. I am not entire familiar with a red motor distributor as mine was with a grey.

Here is the thread I had over at the FE FC Forum - https://forum.fefcholden.club/index.php ... #msg139341

I do make note in my final post that there was an improvement in performance once rectified and questioned the end float issue on timing.

You have replaced the distributor which should eliminate this if it is the cause. It will be interesting how this plays out for you. Good luck.

Have a ripper.

Cheers Rod

Thanks Rod!

I’m pretty positive it isn’t an engine issue making this particular sound, however I did have the very same issue with distributors. The one I have in seems pretty good, though I plan to talk to Blueprint Ignition (Scorcher) about rebuilding one of mine tomorrow.

No, the annoying squeaks are ganging up on me. I’m not paranoid, not discounting that it may be a communist plot to subvert the proletarian Holden driving community. I ned to remember that it is a rattly old ute that’s done over 10000 miles since the rebuild. I think the ultimate solution will be a Bluetooth head unit with a decent amp and speakers.

Haha, I love your thinks about a plot. I am with you.

Bring on 300 pages mate and may the last few be full of pleasure with only the odd hiccup that you will solve and resolve.

Cheers Rod

300 pages will be a doddle

I was looking at plates over here the other day and thought of a few to offset the wankers in their Teslas

I've got a model Y. Apart from associations with Elon Musk it is the best car I have owned.

Things just got a bit fancy in the spare compartment. 195/70 14 replacing 185/65 14. It just fits. I sure hope I never need it.
