Re: Elle’s 1960 FB 225 mild custom
Becomes apparent lowering blocks will cause the bar to foul the shockers unless I space the bar mountings on the axle down a corresponding amount. I can either re-set the springs and attach the bar on the under sides, or use the blocks and change the bar. I have a body mount one stashed for the van ...

Re: Elle’s 1960 FB 225 mild custom
Looking on line I see this type of bar mounted under the spring. Will look at that down the track to eliminate the fouling with passengers in the back seat.

Re: Elle’s 1960 FB 225 mild custom
Also, the blocks I have will not engage in the hole in the underside of the HR spring saddle, which is smaller than the FE EH hole. I suppose I will file down the lug on the top of the block so it fits in the hole.

Re: Elle’s 1960 FB 225 mild custom
Thinking about these lowering blocks and noting the rear axle is HR, I would need to include spacers between the bolt up surfaces to maintain the design limit on compression of the sandwich rubbers. This would amount to a bit of extra work, and weight.

Re: Elle’s 1960 FB 225 mild custom
Went for a longer drive up old Willy hill, dodging all the Tour Down Under road bike enthusiasts that come out of the woodwork at this time of the year here. Then back down the highway at 100 kmh. It is a clockwise circuit theoretically loading up the passenger side front wheel. Measured the hub ...

Re: Elle’s 1960 FB 225 mild custom
I was speculating the short drive would create some end play in the hub however it did not.

Re: Elle’s 1960 FB 225 mild custom
Reverse lights were an easy fix too. Pulled the cover off the shifter and bent the little tin tab that activates the micro switch up a bit and bingo! https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20250109/0245bf83fa550d307f23774070ae8abd.jpg

Re: Elle’s 1960 FB 225 mild custom
Thanks for the information Rob. That doesn’t sound good. For now I have nipped the nut up 1/6 turn. I will run the car around the block and review the situation.

Re: Elle’s 1960 FB 225 mild custom
Thanks Trevor. I’m not perturbed. I bought a bunch of NOS parts a few months ago, including a single inner and outer front bearing and seal, but I might have another go twitching it up. Roger also suggested thinning down the washer a tad but I like your idea of trying another nut.
