Rosco, you just brightened up an otherwise dismal day  . I now have a mental picture of a guy with a pith helmet and desert boots, driving an early Holden with arrows sticking out of it through uncharted territory with the jungle drums beating in the background  .
Don't go dissapearing ...

Re: HydraMatic troubles (whiz whiz whiz!)
Naah.... I better not even start thinking about hydros quite yet. Still got four crashboxes to pull apart, photograph and kit out, and would like to get my hands on an FX/early FJ casing to understand the differences. Havn't even got rid of the Holley carbs from the last document yet.... shed is ...

Re: HydraMatic troubles (whiz whiz whiz!)
G'day Rosco,
Same part number for EK/EJ/EH - 8621218.
I suspect that someone in Australia is stocking them (from memory SunnyTim knows a hydro guru up north), though finding them seems to be a challenge.
I don't know what it is about hydros, but I've got an itching to understand better how they ...

Re: HydraMatic troubles (whiz whiz whiz!)
IF you can't lay your hands on a filter locally, try these guys:
http://www.autotran.us/rhmkits1.html
The hydro was known as the roto-hydramatic in the states, the model 5 often referred to as the Slim Jim. The guys above seem to be aware of the Holden model and stock filters for them.

Re: What could cause this??
Is that uni fitted with a grease nipple (or been repacked at some stage)? A wee tad too much enthsiasm when greasing, and it will fling shit everywhere.
Never forget the old adage though: if there ain't no oil under it, there ain't no oil in it
Cheers,
Harv.

Re: Do they make dash clusters in KM?
Yep, they did make FB/EK speedos in km/h:
Head Assembly - miles per hour (VDO) - 7416278
Head Assembly - kilos per hout (A.C.) - 7961719
Similar thing (two sets of speedo assemblies) for EJ/EH/HD/HR. I'm guessing all the km/h speedos got exported though to early-metric countries.
Cheers,
Harv.

Re: So you think setting up triples is hard ?????
Mmmm...multiple Strombergs...
Ask a silly question:
The EK wagon is getting the small block Chev treatment, and for the time being is running a 600 Holley carb. Idea for now is to keep it simple, get it on the road and then play later. I've got a hankering though for multiple carbs, and a sweet ...

Re: mine & dazzajay's FB ute
The odd FB/EK will pop out of third gear at times - that's why you hang your handbag on the gear lever. Not that I've ever done that...

Dad said spin it the other way so you stay pressed up against the door like they did in those days.

Re: Crashbox Repair
Rusty,
The box should have SAE90 gear oil (not engine oil) in it, filled up to about 1/2" under the "pissing out the filler plug" level when cold (bend a bit of coathanger to make a dipstick). 'Orrible stinky stuff  .
It is possible to adjust both the selector and control rods, though if ...

Re: Crashbox Repair
Rusty,
No shame in having an EJ - damn fine cars. If she's had a (grey+box) transplant, the first trick is to stick your head under and take a look at the bottom of the gearbox. If you're seeing a sump on the gearbox, you've ended up with an FX-EK crashbox. If there is no sump (but there is a ...

Re: removal & replacement of seatbelts question
Agree - if it has belts (even bodgy ones), replace rather than delete. Belts are fairly period-correct anyway (perhaps not retractables... other than SunnyTims cool NASCO retractors 8) ).

Re: Venturi Sleeves into grey strombergs
Thommo,
Theres a pic of a set of triples with progressive linkage on pages 105 and 106 of the Carb guide (in amongst all the other Stromberg porn :D ). Not sure if it's the Crupi brothers car though.
I love the idea of progressive linkages - lots of thinking to put them together and tune, but ...

Sadly, I'm probably silly enough to do it.
