Re: Rocker shaft seals

The relief hole in the oil pipe union is there so that there's just enough (but not too much) oil to lubricate the rockers and valves at highway speeds. But "just enough" is only the case for new rocker shafts and bushes. Once they wear, the oil leaks out too fast and none gets to the rock...

Ah yes . . . the Streaky Bay pub. Stayed in the motel and eaten at the bistro many times. And walked the jetty, and partaken of the oysters . . . I hope that the wind won't be (or won't have been) as bad as it was when I drove over to Exmouth last year. To wit - Started at Wudinna and pulled into th...

Re: Ol' Rusty - FB/EK Sedan

Scotty, Yes. Steering boxes are the pure essence of disappointment. Statewide Bearings in Smithfield has replacements for the sector shaft bushes. To remove the old ones, I used an M27 tap to cut threads in the old bushes, and a length of M27 threaded rod, an M27 nut and an old clutch throwout beari...

Re: Family Affair Ek Ute

You could get the rear axle hump section from a donor sedan body. The box section above it is "fairly" easy to fabricate. In my current project the top mounts for the rear shocks had torn out, and I decided to swap in HKTG top mounts. It's a lot of work, but a much better design. It'd be a...

Re: Family Affair Ek Ute

And I'll second what Brett said. You'll get 3/4 of the way there with subframe legs, tie member and "dumb-irons" (the short sections with the stabiliser bar mounts). The rusted-out bits at the "triple-junction" where the idler arm bolts on are fairly easy to fabricate from sheet ...

Re: Family Affair Ek Ute

What Blacky says. The Rare Spares subframe legs and front tie members are pretty good quality, and a competent panelbeater should have no trouble with the repairs (if I can do it, then surely a panelbeater can). Plus you get to keep your chassis number, and you know that your subframe fits your body...

Re: Tow bar for EK sedan please

I'm guessing that a towbar for FE-FC will also suit FB-EK. It depends on whether the locations of the rear bumper bracket bolts got revised. Can anyone confirm or deny?

. . . wouldn't be anything as simple as headlight high and low beam wires swapped over at the screw terminal blocks?

Re: Neil's FB Station Wagon

Well done, Neil. The doglegs and inner rear wheel arches are about my least favourite repair. You might almost be better off raiding a donor shell for the complete outer section from rear door shutline (where there's a factory seam) to the sill. And we all know that straight, rust-free dogleg sectio...
