Re: Fuel Pump Problem

The valves appear to be the wrong way around. Try & blow thru the inlet, its valve should open, but won't if it's the wrong way around.

Re: Wiring a new temp guage.

Yes, I only suggested the coil because the photo showed a connection slready, which I assumed would be positive. My FB and EK with original and reproduction wiring both get in excess of 12V at coil positive feed it later models differ I know.

Original wiring for FB/EK will have a full 12V at ...

Re: Wiring a new temp guage.

It's not a good idea to use the ignition supply to the coil as a 12V for the gauge.

Depending on how your ignition is wired, the coil doesn't get a full 12 V.

You mention that you wired the gauge to the resistor "as shown in pic". What pic ?

I can see that you have wired a black wire to the ...

You're pretty spot on there Harv, but I believe the tapped hole in the fuel pump body is 1/8" NPT.

Re: Melly's EK wag find

Silly question. Is that copper pipe you using for the brakes ? Or is it copper plated steel bundy tube ?

I don't know what the rules are in Sth Aust, but in NSW, copper pipe for brakes is illegal.

Re: Harv's FED thread

Silly question time Harv. Did you use a Loctite (or similar) sealant on the NPT threads ?

Also, thinking about long-term serviceability I would be fitting flexible hoses on the calipers, before you go much further. I can hear a lot of cussing every time you need to repair anything associated with ...

Re: Diff identification

Yes, I agree It looks like an EJ/EH housing and brakes, with a 3.08 or 2.78 centre, probably out of a Torana, where they were far more common.

what Blacky said, but taking a shot in the dark if it's just another Holden housing most likely EJ, EH, HD, HR which are all basically the same

Not quite. If it's an early diff (3.89 Grey) it will have the early style rear uni joint which looks different to the later ones with their U-bolts ...

I knew you would nut it out Harv. These things are made to very good tolerances, so it's all good now.

Re: EK Fuel Gauge pegs to the right on ignition.

Harv & Blacky are both correct.

The wire to the fuel tank sender or the sender itself is open circuit.

A short circuit will hold the gauge to the empty position, but an open circuit will send it to full.

Re: Making your own braided hoses

I'm a Raceworks distributor & based at Auburn, I make these all the time.

One thing to keep in mind is that brake hoses for street registered road cars, regardless of whether they are factory-style rubber or braided must have crimped ends. The ones which are made using removable AN fittings are not ...

In a country where petrol is close to A$4.00/L I think strokers or 1,500 hp motors are furthest from their thoughts.

Re: 253 info

253 main bearing sets are easliy available in sizes ranging from STD to 40 thou under. The most common 'reco' grind seems to be 30 thou from what I have seen.

We sell them for $A75 + gst a set. 40 thou (if needed) are the same price but a bit more difficult to procure.

The auto trans you have will ...

Re: Buckskin FB panel van

333 was a regular option in FE/FC, because they came standard with an all-metal upper tailgate as standard, with the glass as an option.

In my experience there were more vans with the glass option than without, but maybe it was different back in the day.

I don't believe this was the case in FB/EK ...

You, and every farmer in the country as well.

10-24 UNC (aka 3/16" UNC). 3/16" Whitworth has the same pitch . . . mumble mumble . . . thread angle five degrees different . . .

That 5 degrees can sometimes be a real pain. The Whitworth bolt is 5 degrees "fatter" in the teeth which makes it ...
