Re: Dave's Orange Betty EK Sedan

Great work Dave. Some say to seal the metal with 2k etch prior to filler. Sent from my SM-G781B using Tapatalk Thanks Clay. Yeah, have heard that, but 'others' say filler adheres best to bare metal.... And I'm using glass fibre in the first instance so waterproof. One of those "6 of one and ha...

Re: Dave's Orange Betty EK Sedan

Fully welded in the Rares Patch and the patches for Rares patch.... 1.jpg 2.jpg lots of grinding later. 3.jpg 4.jpg Not too bad. The panel at the top weld is a bit wavy, there is shallow low in the middle of the patch and a bit of dent/hollow where I blended the original wheel arch to the Rares one....

Re: Dave's Orange Betty EK Sedan

Some progress on the rear qtr panel patch. Couldn't get the Rares patch to fit and ended up maiming the top RH section of it bashing it around. Anyway fitted a donor patch there and cut the Rares panel down the guts to persuade it to fit. It's out by that gap you can see below - and the wheel arch p...

Re: Dave's Orange Betty EK Sedan

Dave, You asked why number 1 wears out faster than the others. There's probably a Ph.D. to be had in this. It's peculiar to red motors. Some half-formed ideas: The water pump impeller sits hard up against number 1 cylinder. You could imagine a situation where cavitation seriously reduces the heat t...

I've lost count of the number of 186s I've had to bin because no. 1 cylinder bore wore badly at the front, and then the rings broke.

But I like the engine test setup. The music stand sets it off beautifully.

Rob
Hi Rob, why is it that the #1 cylinder wears more than the others?

Re: Dave's Orange Betty EK Sedan

Dave, The front seat's front feet (like the sixth sheik's sick sheep) are secured by a saddle to make removing the front seat easier: four, easily accessible bolts at the rear, then you "just" unhook the front seat . . . a doddle compared to removing EJ-HG front seats. Rob Thanks Rob, I t...

Re: Dave's Orange Betty EK Sedan

Ok, got the sliding mechanism working with the rod between driver and passenger side. The passenger side mechanism just needed a little lubrication and persuasion. Bashed the floor around a bit where the front seat feet go and now have them pretty flat. Which brings me to the question of why are the...

Re: Dave's Orange Betty EK Sedan

Betty now has a complete floor! Nothing exciting, took me ages, just used 4 full Rares pans, made the left rear seat pan, fabbed up the tunnels and about 50 other patches... Also put seat belt mounts in the B pillars. Floor done.jpg Which brings me to test fitting the front seat for front mount plac...

Re: Dave's Orange Betty EK Sedan

Thanks all for the support, some more slow progress on the right hand rear seat pan all but finshed Finished1.jpg I thought with more original metal remaining on this side it would be easier but I was wrong. Lots more smaller patches made for more work. And this corner was tricky Corner.jpg But most...
