hope you had a bath afterwards!
did the car cop much damage?
the tool worked well on the lowers.
the upper were a different story, ground down the rivets, then drill out them out being careful not to go to far and use a punch in the end.

You can also use a vice ( large if you have one ) and some pipe to squeeze them in and out.

Press is the ultimate though, I bought a Chinese one a few years ago and have done everything from ball joints, suspension bushes, tailshaft unis and even electric motor bearings, good value I must admit.

Hi guys ,
Ive been struggling to get my ball joints in my lower hr control arms. I tried with a ball joint kit in its clamp then the kit tubes in my vice with no luck. Took it to a mechanics shop with a hyd press and no luck. They keep wanting to go in on the piss.
Any one had this issue or have any tips
The ball joints are new from rares for HR

You need to have pipe around both the ball joint and control arm to make them go in straight. Is your control arm straight ?

I use exhaust pipe cut offs ( various sizes ) one to support the arm square and to allow the ball joint to slide into it and one on the ball joint to keep it square whilst being pushed in.

Sometimes they will appear to be going in not square but eventually straighten up.

Hope that makes sense ? I use a press as well it makes it a lot easier.

Greg

You havent had th econtrol arms powdercoated have you ? If so , grind the powdercoat off the inside bore of the ball joint hole , maybe try putting the ball joints in the freezer overnight and a bit of heat on the control arms as well ??

I have a kit with the tubes for them i presume the same principal as exhaust pipe. I did try put one in before powder coating with no luck i guess the powder coating definitely wouldn't help in just presumed it wouldn't bother a press.
Ill buzz the paint back out and try the freezer trick i did this with Landcruiser bearing cups years back and it seemed to help.
Its trying to prevents them going in on the piss that is the mission with out ovaling the hole and then having them slop around. The springs hold them in aswell tho ay

Hi Mate if you want you could bring them down to my workshop in Henderson and I can put them (try  ) in with the hydraulic press.
