Electronic dizzy in grey.

Post by dave68 »

Hey all, I have heard that a vk electronic dizzy will go into the grey. Apart from the drive gear is there anything else that needs to be done to accomplish this, do I need to install a new electronic coil or are there any other electronics to be replaced? Any help would be much appreciated
Thanks.
P.S. hope to be going shopping at the wreakers tomorrow....
Whatever....:(

Here's your answer, about halfway down the page.

You may not want to go that way though as some people are allergic to some of the products used

Hey stinky, gave them a call and the guy was ever so helpfull. For those intrested, Dizzy $425- coil $75 and 8mm leads $55. All you need is a replacement drive gear.
Don't know if I want to blow that much coin. Will have to think about it.
Whatever....:(

goodness gracious! i was just thinking about this as my points gave me a bit of grief yesterday (stranded on beaumont st for 2 hours in my slippers and tracky dacks) and i was considering a change to electronic.

i wonder if theres not a cheaper way?

One thing to consider is it will improve fuel burn and usage not to mention how smooth the motor will run. I replaced the points dizzy in my red powered Ek with an electronic one and it was a noticeable improvement.

That is the main reason I want to replace this dizzy is to loose the points. I will go to the wreakers and have a look at some and see what is close and take it from there. The above option sounds good but it adds up to about $570 with freight. Is it worth it, opinions wanted please....

Im sure there is a electronic points set that drops straight into
the bosch grey dizzy as a direct reclacement for the old contact points.
Try the Outlaw Speed Shop in Adelaide.

Like Thommo said,

I have a vague recollection that there is,or was, an electronic drop in setup that some company/person made for grey dizzy conversion to electronic but don't know where or how much.

Would be interesting to find out.
I can't think what to write here so this will do.

Mate I have done it and woulnt look back the guys at Performance Ignition were very helpfull

only draw backs were the modual housing sits very close to the column shift linkages and if you run the vac advance can be a bit tight and a bit of messing around with getting the modual to clear the linkages an the the vac advance to clear the block and get the timing spot on

And the leads they supplied were a bit on the short side caused a lot of bad words on my behalf however I didnt ring and complain but I recon if I did they would have sorted it

The more specs you give them the better they can set the advance curve to suit your engine

Ill get some pics soon

If you want just a drop in unit try pertronics

ive done a bit of poking around, and i reckon im going to have a crack at converting my points to electronic.

from what i gather, i need a bosch HEI module, and either a reluctor or hall effect (or optical, but i think ill steer clear of that one) triggering system.

anybody interested? or any warnings from those more experienced?

Says on the box "Easy to Install" :D
Comes complete with 20 pages of instuctions
