Hello Gary are you out theresearsy wrote:Gary
Did u have any problems with your engine bay paint blistering from your log headers
Also can you tell me how much clearance did you have from the paint work
I wrapped my log headers with heat wrap and the paint blistered even up to 10 cm away
My log headers are made out of stainless do u think I would be better off making mild steel and ceramic coating them

I didn't have any problems with paint blistering, clearance was down to about 20-25mm in some places. I made my headers out of mild steel and had them ceramic coated to help with heat issues, the stainless would be one of the worst for heat and is more than likely the main cause of your grief. The headers had done 24,000 kms and all paint in the engine bay was still in tact, even on the firewall where the headers passed between the K frame and the firewall. Hope this helps mate

I'm thinking of making 253MA stainless steel log headers?

I have done the prefit on the Booster and master cylinder, Brake pedal has been moved to the centre of the "firewall to dash" brace so I have plenty of clearance on the bonnet hinges, in the "final-final" fit (after some $##%$&*) ... it is now closer to the hinge.
I have "peened" the metal on the brace so there is no contact with the top of the pedal shaft:
"Original":
Modified:
,
Also made up the mounts for the Torana "outriggers", welded nut to 6mm doubler plate and closed the "outrigger mount" in with plate to make it look neater:
External view:
Internal view, clearance has been allowed for between the "new mount" and the outrigger mount for the polyurethane bush that will be fitted:
Also changed the Powerglide pan to increase ground clearance:
And prefit check on the polished S/S uni joints and 3/4" DD intermediate steering shaft:
