Day of the Drags 2023

Post by Harv »

For once I was home, so entered the wagon in the DotD. Lots of beautiful cars in the pits.

One for Mr Black:

The only grey running was Spanners’ Cutting Loose HAMBSTR:

Small HAMBSTR field of only two cars, but great to see the grey punishing the flathead-powered opponent 👍

Spotted an older lady running a beautiful green two-door Notaholden (&*#@? Willys? Should have taken a photo). 80 years old, her first ever pass. 17 seconds, and grinning like a Cheshire cat. Great people to talk to.

This was in the pits, but didn’t come out to the staging lanes to play. Any idea whose it is?

Made a qualifying pass and beat a SLR, then waited for the racing to start. Thought it was Chicago Shootout, but ended up elimination. Into the staging lanes, acres of old cars… except the Nissan Juke they paired me with, dialled in at 15.4. Figured it would be shameful to lose to the Juke, so leant on the wagon. Hard smokey burnout most of the way to the tree. Wound it up, tree flashed down, Juke left the line, and I sent it.

… a little too early. Red-lit. The kids are never going to let me live down loosing to a 15 second Juke. The shame.

Cheers,
Harv

Great story Harv- enjoyed the read. No shame 'cause you have a go. Better luck next time.

The Supercharged EK is Rodney Grimas, i think it was at the Mudgee nationals last time i saw it and has had an upgrade since then.

Good fun Harv, youv'e got to slow down the adrenaline before setting off at the lights, hard to do i must admit !!!

Great stuff

Would have been a great day 😎😎
When you're faced with an unpleasant task that you really don't want to do, sometimes you just have to dig deep down inside and somehow find the patience to wait for someone else to do it for you.

Ended up working so didn’t make it in the end. Did have the live stream running though and saw the wagon in action!

Bit of a shame about the third HAMBSTR. Yellow NSW car with a slant 6, beautiful bare ally fairings. It had been teched only a year ago, and passed. Scrutineers found the harnesses a few years out of date. Offered to run to Rocket for replacement belts or help him install, but sadly a major body-off exercise, so it went back on the trailer.

Good old Spanners, how’d he go? I’ll have to give him a buzz for the race report

He was running well, though a long way for him to travel for a 2-car field. Was good to catch up with him.
