Hi all.
Recently my speedo has started playing up. When i accelerate it works fine. When i slow the car down the orange bar seems to be very slow in responding. Now when i stop the car, the orange bar seems to stay at 30….till i go faster.
I was thinking of pulling the instrument cluster and unscrewing the speedo cable and injecting some grease down into the cable - last time i looked, it was all greased up.
Or do you think this isn’t the problem. Maybe the issue in the speedo dial itself.
Has anyone had similar experience, and maybe a solution?
Thanks in advance
Tim (Grafton)

Re: Speedo sticking
Hey Tim
I suggest pull the Speedo out and dismantle. I had a similar issue and found my Speedo needed some TLC. Fine machine oil is best but you need very little.
I have a couple pics on my Ute page, see page 6 from below link. Whilst Speedo is out check the cable. If you apply grease avoid using too much at the top 1/4 of the cable as grease can migrate up to where you don’t want it.

Hi Tim , I had a similar problem with my 57 Chev, the speedos are similar and i was sent a very comprehensive servicing guide - it was so detailed anyone would think Harv had written it
