Hi Guys,
Thought I'd better try again this time in the right place. Havent had a great deal of time to put into the wag... been thru most of the boxes but the big ticket item was getting it moved to the other side of the garage so the wife could park her car... Few little things I did find which will need attention early on- anyone had experience with a fix for rusted out roof lining retainer strip?

Also after some feedback on the best way to address the surface rust on the inside of the roof... poking around a bit revealed this surface stuff all the way thru under the sound deadening material

. Whats everyone's preferred treatment for this kind of scale..?? Blacky suggested the wire wheel but having a look through I like the idea of Rogers plastic wheel (by the way Roger thats some nice artwork on your forearm you incurred on the clean-up of Ammo's Ute- hope that healed up OK for ya..) Best rust converters?
Had the pleasure of meeting Blacky and subscribing to EKmart- cheers for that Blacky!!
Thanks guys have a good weekend

Yes, my van has those rusty retainers melly. Easy enough to replicate, or use a different secret fastening method.
Wire wheel on the drill will eat up the surface rust. Plastic is better on paint. Start with the wire then clean up with the plastic strip disc, which will get you shiny metal. Stanley knife to chip off stubborn scale the brush can’t lift.
Phosphoric redox treatment on any remaining solid oxide, then few coats 2k epoxy etch. It is impervious, job done.
Cheers,
Clay

If you use the wire wheel method, just be mindful of moving the wheel around and not making heat in one spot. The wagon roofs are a looooooong panel... any distortion from heat becomes very visible in the finished paint.

Beauty guys that’s going to be one of the first jobs I think.. 1)spoke to the seatbelt mob Blacky suggested and I can do the anchor points without the seats in (certified)they’ll make me the belts later at around $110 each?? I know I can get sets off eBay but thinking about the engineering approval down the track.2) Find a welder (and someone who can weld
) and fix those retainers. 3) Sort out out the brakes- Blacky gave me some good feedback on the gear I’ve got just gotta work out where to put it... thanks guys here’s some more pics of what I’ve got to deal with... cheers, craig

Don't listen to anything Blacky tells you - he is an idiot and a "serial pest" , just ask the crowd on Facebook
We forgot to check EKmart for a retainer while you were here but I reckon we can rustle one up if the trimmer decrees we need one.
$110 a belt is a screaming deal, you would battle to buy a decent universal one for that sort of money - and seatbelts is one place you don't want to cheap out ......
We have a club run tomorrow to Ascot racecourse for the Shannons Classic Car day if you need to come down for a snag in a bun and some inspiration ???

I second that bit about that Blacky bloke. What would he know about FBEK ‘s. I don’t think he’s ever seen one.

Not sure about them being reversed Clay but would like to know what you see.
They are drum brake stub axles with adapter plates and looks like the engine mounts have been moved back to where they need to be for the red motor so at least you don't have to worry about them and firewall modified for the triples Melly.
