Clutch Kit reccomendations

Post by EJVince »

Want to get a new clutch kit by next weekend, not a lot of choice of shops down here in the Bega Valley, only Repco or Super Cheap Auto, are they likely to be able to order something suitable in or am I better ordering online?

Ebay seem to have a few grey motor kits available.

I am a bit concerned as to whether a 220mm kit will fit my bellhousing with a few posts I've read, as EJ has a different bellhousing to EH.
Anyone want to reccomend a particular brand and where to purchase, not wanting a cheap option and rather pay a bit more for right kit.

Thanks for posting mate. The first says to EK for some reason, and the second is a 220mm which I am just a little uncertain about, gets a bit confusing really.

Messaged a supplier on Ebay, got this reponse about a 220mm clutch for EJ:

Yes will fit, but doesn't fit through inspection cover, must remove or loosen bellhousing.

After bolt up will work okay, where the 8.6" cover bolts on, is a bit wider than the 8" cover, but has same bolt pattern.

Dropped into Repco today, their suppliers are Clutch Industries and Clutch Pro, he is checking with both companies, and will let me know response, his book says should be 200mm but his suppliers have grey motor ones that are 215mm or 220mm.

Repco can source a Clutch Pro 200mm clutch kit, and have ordered it, will be here in 1-2 days 😊

I really would rather stick to original specs, but not saying a 220mm wont work satisfactorily, just doubt in my mind from different posts I've read.

From memory I fitted 230mm red motor clutch, but it was behind the earlier FX EK crash box. No issues 5000 miles down the road.

Sounds prommising no issues, not sure what clearance there is on earlier boxes, glad its working for you. I think when I fit mine on the weekend out of interest I will check clearance on my EJ just out of pure curiosity.

I fitted a "red motor" clutch assy to my FC 6 or 7 years ago with no problems. I was warned that I might have minor issues with contact to the bell housing which might require a bit of grinding to the pressure plate but none of that happened. I fitted an "Excedy"(?) clutch kit to my FB about 4 years ago. This was advertised as a 220mm clutch suitable for grey motors and it is fine, no issues. On both cars I had the flywheel faced to accommodate the larger clutch plate.Hope this helps, cheers, Fraze.

As fraze said, need to reface flywheel for larger driven plate.
