Hr Front.

Post by mph »

Hi team.
I'm starting to look for a cheap hr front end drum or disk for the end result to have ball joints to run drop spindles.
It will be built over time as the budget allows
I'll mod it ,have it powder coated and rebuild it my self.
I'm not to fussed on disks , calipers and std spindles as ill collect those parts over time unless a complete unit is reasonable priced for something that will need new every thing anyways.
I believe the drop spindles are drilled for hk-hg disk brakes as well so might look for some of them.
Prefer WA but will look east.
Feel free to PM or call or text 0402 446 401
Thanks.

Hi Blacky
I would be interested in the other front end for the station wagon  if they are complete.

And Clint the drop spindles can be purchased for a number of different brake setups and CRS spindles are pretty good price the ones on my ute were only $500 (I think) for the pair and depending on the steering you are running drilled for front or back caliper mount.

They used to be drilled for either front or back but this last set I bought were only for one way, there was photos of them in my build but not sure if they have survived.

So far ive found the crs and the stubtech ones which seem to have a little beef between each other.
nice tip on the front or back set up , ill be sure to mention it will be for a std hr front with std hr or hktg brakes unless there is a easier to find and do setup but im not interested in mucking around and trying all sorts of others to maybe fit.
ust after a bolt on job
Then i can install my super low king springs and bury the front wheels right up in the guards.
The front steel wheels offset can be changed to suit once installed if need be

HR etc not so easy go get hold of now. You may have problems going that low Clint specially with wide and or tall rubber. Bringing the rim inward is limited by suspension clearance unless you go to 17" rim maybe. Even then steering arm becomes an issue. More than a 2" drop overall with 6" rim and 185/75 13" tyre can be tricky unfortunately.

Hi Clint;
Yes there is drama between CRS and Stubtech, from what I read Stubtech is Rod Hadfield making drops again and there has been muck slinging going back and forth about quality I think that is why CRS price came down.

I just had a look at the CRS spindles on the site and the photo still shows them drilled for either front or back but the ads say for front mounted rack or read mounted rack so just make sure you order the right one mate.

Both of my cars are rear mounted racks; the FC ruins HZ/WB aluminium Girlock calipers and rotors these were the best calipers for that time, thats not just me saying it if you google them it will confirm this; 'Frankenstein' runs VP calipers and rotors both easy bolt ons as Holden have used the same wheel bearing since forever, you will need to run at least 15" rims and watch your offset, I used HR steering arms on both cars however on 'Frank' because of the commodore rims and offset I had to bend them in slightly to give clearance to the edge of the rim and these rims are 16".

I'm not sure if the photos are still there in 'Franks" thread but you are welcome to come and have a look if you like.
Hope this helps

Im running stock 14 hg up front 5" wide i think ? with just stock off set atm , and 7" rear also trying to work out rear off set for a 8" rear steel rim( side project)
i think you need 14" rims to clear the lower balljoint section with drop spindles stubtech mentioned
Might need a 14" center in a 5" x 15" band flipped with a deeper offset ?
Will tackle wheels when it proposes a issue hopefully not though.
