A bit more steering progress. Cut and bent the mounting plate for the firewall and test fitted it. Engineer wanted 3mm. I will get laser cut mob to cut me a 20mm wide 3mm thick cover strip/plate to put on the firewall front and then tack the nuts to the inner plate to make it easy to fix. Column will be welded to the plate.
I have decided to go with the torrie ignition and indicator set-up and see how it goes. It would not be difficult to install the EK bearing housing and honey pot if I dont like the look of it.

I also decided this morning that Project 3 (black ute) will be an electric car. Will talk to engineer about that when he's next here.

Yeah easy peasy. Column will come out from inside, seperate to box. Box can be unbolted seperate from column. So muuuuch easier than standard set up. Maybe nuts on outside plate to make it just like old one.

Please tell me you're thinking of transplanting something out of a high-end Tesla (600-odd horse) and not a Prius (70 ponies). You distract the hipster, and I'll unbolt his high-zoot motor 8)

Something in-between I think Harv. 600 hp might test the friendship with both my cheque book and my engineer😁. A ute seems a good candidate for such shenanigans.

You can buy a twin hub motor rear axle in the states. Bolt in replacement more or less. Replace the rest of the driveline with batteries, distributed to optimise handling. No tailshaft, a cable instead.

Ohh look forward to an electric build. Like the idea of motors on the rear axle - but like the idea more of retaining the gearbox so you still have to 'drive' it. There are kits for VW Beetle/Ghia/Bus which bolt onto the gearbox which is converted to 2 speed. The kit has everything you need - except the motor and the battery

Mounting plate bits sorted, will lose flat washers and keep spring washers. Currently using Rares guard screws but will probably change for 7/16 head. Nuts now welded to back plate for ease of install. Next job is placement column and weld up. Slowly, slowly😁. It's all pretty tight....

A bit closer to the finished product. It seems to be working out OK. Next job is to weld up mounting plate to column. May still add EK honey pot to make it neat or use the plastic filler that comes with it.
You can see my steering wheel of choice to keep the theme going🙂. Dimensions from wheel to dash are almost identical to black utes standard set up so should be OK.
My new tailgate badges arrived today. Thanks Stephen they are spectular.

Unique beast you are building Brett. Tidy work as ever. The boot badges look fantastic.

A bit more progress. Now to sort out the breakaway mounts under the dash.
Had a visit from Sam and Dave today. Great to talk about our projects.

Random question: is the middle section of front bumper the same as middle section on sedan rear bumper?

Same pressing yes, hole placement may vary according to model and body type
