Hi, I am new to the forum. I am in Brisbane and just purchased an EK ute (needs a little cut & polish and some more metal...).
I am trying to add a pic, but still trying to work that bit out.
Body: EK/2106-1651M
Trim: 544-1033
Paint: 585-4587
I was trying to work out what year it is a 61' or 62'?
M = Melbourne factory
1651 = the number off the Melbourne production line.
Trim?
The paint I think is Montana Grey?
Year made?

If anyone can help, that would be great.
cheers,
Shane'o

Hey Shane'o,

Almost Twins with mine
Mine is EK2106-4494-S and from all accounts just scraped in as a 61 make but early 62 first sale so yours is much earlier so I'd hazard a guess at August/Sept production - Tim will be able to give a more accurate timeline.
585-4587 is definitely Montana Grey which was a colour used for farm and commercial vehicles mostly.
Trim 544-1033 - is different to one which was 544-983 which is EK 983 Mephisto & Chianti Red 2106
544-1033 is EK 1033 Mephisto Red & Madison Grey 219

It's a great colour when you get some shine back into it - has the slightest hue of purple hidden in the grey - very clever

Start a thread for your build and put some pics up - easiest way I have found is to do it via your phone on Tapatalk for adding images

Thanks, Guys for the warm welcome and for all the great info. Much appreciated.
I will try and start a new thread and upload some pix.
About to start the reno but will be a slow process as I can only work on it part-time and as money becomes available.
Will try and do as much work as possible myself and see how we go.
cheers,
Shane'o

Sorry to hi jack this post but I’m looking for some information on my car as well. My chassis number is EK423218 but has FB markings etc. When I brought it I was told it was a FB with a chassis number starting with EK??? I was told it was one of the last FBs to be produced and due to the change over of models EK parts used to complete the last of the FBs. I would like to confirm if this is the case and did some FBs come out with chassis numbers starting with EK???

No. Probably a replacement front subframe. And last digit is a letter so probably an S or a B.

The chassis numbers were stamped on the inner firewall on the production line some time after assembly to the body. What does the body tag say? What size are the holes in the A pillar to accomodate light switches? Is the dash cluster smooth or hatched? Does the cowl vent cover have horizontal louvres or vertical slots?

With my limited knowledge mate chassis numbers were stamped at the time of assembly so I thought it should have been fb maybe a replacement chassis at some time due to accident or some other reason.

Somebody else on here with more history knowledge will probably have the answer.

Hi Guys,
I have made a start with my 61? EK ute. The radiator is out and with Natrad to be refurbished and I managed to take the engine and gearbox out of the old girl over the weekend. It was a tight squeeze and needed a little persuasion and I also donated some skin to the cause. Then I scrapped 60+ years of oily crap, (rust prevention) off the outside of the engine to reveal an engine number.
The engine number is B233251.
The chassis number is EK 17316M.

I was hoping that this may help in finding out approx. when it rolled off the production line, and if there is any way to tell if this is the original engine?

The engine number is close enough to be original.

On the right hand-side of the block, near to the part number, will be a code with a letter and three or four numbers. This is the casting date for the block. There's also a date code on the cylinder head, the exhaust manifold, and the gearbox case. Post them up and we'll tell you what the dates are.

You can also date the vehicle to within three months by looking at the etched "Armourplate" logos on the glass. You are looking for two etched dots above or below the letters in the logo. A magnifying glass will help here. The rear glass and the window glass will likely be original; chances are that the windscreen will have been replaced. Tell us which letters have dots.
