Gunk removal

Post by 138 »

I have just picked up an FB which has the original 40 years of caked on hard grease all over the tie rod ends/ kingpins/ gearbox, etc. This is my 20th? car which I have done, but the cleaning of the front end never gets any easier. It's slways bags of fun armed with a screwdriver, some kero in a squirt bottle, & safety specs, trying to clean off 3/4" of hard grease.
Please share your secrets for getting this job done. I have heard of all manner of brews which people have used, but they all require heaps of elbow grease as well.

G'day 138 , welcome to the forum mate  I normally get the apprentice to do it
When you're faced with an unpleasant task that you really don't want to do, sometimes you just have to dig deep down inside and somehow find the patience to wait for someone else to do it for you.

Maybe one of those new fang dangled car washes also offer steam cleaning? Haven't tried it myself though.

Welcome to the Forum too.
