So I tackled the brake upgrade on the weekend.
This is what the old rotors looked like coming off you can see some blue spots around the rotors and what felt like some minor cracks around the slots. So pulled all that off the hub/adapters came with new bearings and dust seals so hubs on. Then rotors. And of course not all goes a smoothly as they tell you in the fairy tales went to put the caliper on and couldn't get it to line up with the holes in the stub axle/drop spindle when I looked at the spindle and then at the caliper realized I had to do a little adjustment
Spindle Adjustment of the caliper, I could have taken some off of the spindle I suppose but the caliper was easier in my mind.
Caliper adjustment, I haven't cut into the caliper as such just sliced some off flat with the bolt hole face to give the clearance it needed to go back just that little bit more so the bolts lined up.

So to finish up.
The caliper was now able to bolt up Took me quite a long time to get them to bleed up, doesn't really help when you are by yourself ended up getting my vacuum bleeder and sucking a fair bit of fluid through then finished off by pump and release and they came up pretty good.
Haven't had it on the road yet just in and out of the shed and they seem a whole lot better, I disconnected the line to my booster from the vacuum pump and it seemed pretty good from the vacuum pump but I am also still not convinced that the booster is working 100% either so probably something else to look at.
When I was reading up about doing the brake upgrade they all said you need at least 15" I'm running 16" rims and from the look of the the photo I think 15's might even be a push, I suppose it would depend on which front end setup you are running. I hope this helps anybody else wanting to do the upgrade.

Caliper doesn't contact the upper control arm on full lock?

Harv I ran the hoses back between the spindle and the shock tower cause the hose was too short to go on the outside of the spindle but the hose is ok on full lock both ways.

Oz I notched the upper control arm when I fitted the VP Calipers and as I said I haven't given it a test drive yet to see how it goes, might have nto make some adjustments

Cool - if it is OK, I'd love some photos please. I ran the hoses from the caliper inboard, then between the subframe and swaybar end. Hose-to-hardline bracket on the subframe, but much further forward than the old drum hoess. It works, but even with HR brake hose spring-thingies the routing is not very elegant.

So I did some test runs last weekend and the upgrade has vastly improved my brake situation, re adjusted my wheel bearings yesterday as I had them a little tight I think and all looking good also have full turning lock to lock without any drama.

That’s good news Neil. You’re going to need those brakes in about 2700km, and you will need a good turning circle to chuck a right at Bord Agudda.

So a bit of an update on the VT brake upgrade I have found that when I'm on full lock that the brakes fade really bad, having a look at it it looks like one of the brake lines pulls tight and restricts fluid so I'm going to have new hoses made and add about 6" so the hoses can't kink when on lock

I would to !!! You seriously don't want to tear a hose off and then need to stop in a hurry.

Doesn't modifying these old girls create a challenge !!!!
