holden 6 and chev fuelk pump differences

Post by tuffbwagon »

hey guys i recently bought a high volume mechanical fuel pump for my 202. upon receiving it i noticed the actuator shaft is slightly different to the original. so i try to put it on and it wont fit cos it hits on the cam eccentric and the block. so i contact the people i got it off . to be told its off a big block chev and that they are the same. what im wondering is can anyone confirm if theyve ever used a big block chev pump on a holden 6 and if you did how did you do it. they told me to remove the actuator pin and change the actuator from the original to the hv but theres no way that it can be done as its been pressed in and folded over the top of. if i do it ill void my warranty. am i just being taken for a ride thanks wayne

I used to run a mechanical pump on my speedway engines , they were Chev ones and they had to be modified to suit the red motor - we used to chop the arm and weld it at a different angle.

What sort of horsepower are you after , can you not use a standard pump ??

It can be hard to tell, as the SBC pumps will bolt straight up. The SBC fuel pump lobe lift is of the order of 0.334-0.345", whereas the standard grey motor lobe lift is around 0.243”. So even though the SBC should pump waaaay too much, the GMH cam won't stroke it as much and it will only deliver 2/3 to 3/4 what it would in a Chev.

I've seen fuel pumps running coolant on Brobo saws, but never one running a paint gun
