I used nut serts for th e guard mount. Having done a lot of highway lately, decided I have to get my steering box reconditioned with new worm gear.

It was done in 2mm stainless steel. I didn’t use nutserts as I have the piece that goes on the back to help spread the load.

That was the plan as this was done as a test, just waiting on pricing…..

Which brings me to where I’m up to now…out of mig gas

Started on the left rear quarter and being this is a left over FB body it’s still got some pesky rust left in it as really early EK body’s unfortunately are FB based that’s why they are rustier





So now works begins on the only bits of rust left to cut out, so as you can see [mention]SunnyTim [/mention] it’s not just quite a case of buff and reassemble.





Little bit more cutting to go and I need to find a donor wheel arch that’s not rusty to repair the rest but this is where it’s at. Unfortunately I have a few more jobs to do on the house before I get back on the car so I’m off to stain timber…..

Looks to me like the vastly superior FB is rejecting the substandard EK bits

So being we are in lockdown again…. I’ve been tinkering on other things till I can organise more mig I’ve been looking at the dual curcuit brake setup.

Here are a few things I’ve worked out this afternoon. Now I took the bonnet off for access then had to improvise to move the hinge up and down so ignore my makeshift leverage device.

If you align the original upper firewall master cylinder bolt hole with the same bolt hole in the bracket (top rhs hole) it clears the spring as it pushes the bracket further inboard and clears the spring.





Next up flip the adjuster rod bracket so the flat side is on the outer and the bent side is on the inside of the car.




This too helps align the rod better. I’ll need to enlarge the hole slightly but it seems to all line up and work. Down side is it will mess with a clutch master but I think some creative reworking of the bracket will fix that problem.

Next up I made a sub par 7” cardboard/paper template just as a roughie to see how close it would put the spring to a dual diaphragm 7” booster.




So now I need to decided. Make a better replica booster or bite the bullet and order one. Then continue mocking it all up. It’s going to be tight but may just work.

Yep, this latest snap lockdown caught me out in a good way, it’s given me some time to just fumble around in the shed. I was meant to be laying pavers but can’t go out to buy them…

Downside is I really need to go get mig gas and organize a few things for the car but can’t go and get them so I’ll nut out some of the other things I want to change.

Today’s fun was to clean up 60years worth of crud of some bonnet hinges I plan to replace the worn ones in the car.

So into my benchtop parts washer… just


Bit of steel wool and a few hours later…



Also hit the spring with a wire wheel and it’s all cleaned up almost like new.



Now to do the other one!

You got way more patience than me , I would have sandblasted those puppies ....

Or soak in citric and blast with karcher

Hahaaaa nah just don’t have access to a blaster and can’t go any further than 5kms…. It’s at my mates who is about 12kms
