The finned box on the firewall will be the audio amplifier stage for the car radio. I'm guessing that the unit in the dash has valves in it, but the weird kind that can run from 12 V. And the manufacturers could flog the radio as "transistor power".

lengthen the solid bar to the last adjustment point if you want to improve your pedal feel so the accelerator is less twitchy

Yeah we have but you get to a point where you cant get WOT which is not the end of the world so we may go that way

its not going to look as good, but getting rid of the accelerator bar and going cable will fix the issue.
