Get a thumping big battery and put in the boot, with heavy duty cable to starter. Same cable you can earth battery to tail light nut and starter mounting bolt to inner subframe leg attaching bolt nut. You’ll need more power with the aircon. The battery will last longer out of the engine bay heat, and the handling will improve with reduced understeer.

I used a battery out of a jetski in the wifes V6 EK , tucked it up against the radiator support panel and worked a treat.
I started with nothing and still have most of it left.

I had the same battery drama in the wagon. The 327's exhaust headers are very close to the battery, and I didn't like the idea of a battery in the boot of the wagon.

I fitted a sealed 33AH deep cycle lead-acid battery (DC12-33):

http://www.olympicbatteries.com.au/Seal ... ry-DC12-33

They come in a variety of shapes to suit just how much you have to butcher the battery tray. I made a simple sheet steel surround for the battery, and packed the 10mm gap between battery and surround with fibreglass insulation (because I was too cheap to buy a whole Pink Batt, I robbed a handfull from the house ceiling).

The battery performs really well. It has a 120A alternator trying to fry it on one side, and has to fight the Chev's 10.6:1 compression on the other. No dramas with charging or cranking. It will crank for just as long as the normal batteries I've owned over the years (i.e. it is not a one-shot wonder). I've had it down to dead-flat, and charged it back up again with a trickle charger with no impact.

Cheers,
Harv

Something else you may be interested in, being over your way. Would want to check the rear header would fit of course, but the flanges are there.

Had a little spare time today so went through the wiring loom and made a plan then made up some brackets to hold the vintage air demister vents nothing to special. Just clears the wipers.
They seal the original dash holes flush , just need to pull them out ,clean them up and add some paint.
Probably the slowest project ive ever done.ImageImageImageImageImageImage

The unit is now fixed in permanent I'm quite happy with its location, just going through all the spaghetti wire looms plenty of them but the look worse than what they are most are plug and play ,will run and fix them neat, Drains installed, wires out though under the fender to the dryer ,pipes are all in situ but to be removed for crimping then reinstalled with o.rings. 1 duct is run 4 more to go. I've also mounted a thermo fan loom which will only come in with the aircon. The holden finger chopper fan is staying for the motor side of things.
The horn will have to be relocated under the front fender by the looks of things with the condensor now in its space. I'm looking forward to ditching the window rag and having demisters soon.
While I was at it I've insulated from the front seat to the top of the fire wall inside the fb with cad builders insulation to try keep out some heat, road noise and give the aircon a hand in cooling during summer . I was a bit hesitant installing it incase of future repairs but it is removal with some elbow grease not like the old school ones. Hope its not a myth.ImageImageImageImage
