Clay 2023 Bendigo mission

Post by Errol62 »

Ive been hearing about the Bendigo Swapmeet for forty years. So i loaded up some buckskin panno bits in the 6x4, swag in the back of the cruiser. Thundered over on Friday. Vic roads, I don't know....ImageGoogle maps takes me some sketchy routes sometimes, not that I mind a bit of sketchiness to relieve the boredom of an 8 hour drive.

Parked up opposite the gate near the RSL and went to the club for dinner. I needn't have worried about the dress code. It appears no hats is the only rule. Im a bit of a fan of the Simon Templar the saint volvo coupes. A mates dad was a volvo dealer, and fsther and son each had one.ImageSwagged out in the cruiser and queued up at the gate at quarter to six.

Here is my catch:ImageImage

The boot badge alone justified the trip in my mind. Was the second thing I bought, after the $5 shank nuts.

I didn't get to every stall, but i will go back in the morning, probably. The whole event is a bit overwhelming, it is so big. Though people were saying that it isn't what it was.

After I had handed over too much folding, the seller told me how he had made them in tech at school. He had them on an EH.

FJ horn button for a mateImage
On the way to pick up a canopy for the ute, staying with friends at Petschel House, their art gallery outside Hamilton. Nice part of the world.ImageGarden is amazing, as is the old bluestone farmhouse. Interesting the box heads and the Scott's never saw eye to eye in the district and still don't to a degree. Scotts came first, establishing the big pastoral leases, and look down on the Lutherans.

SW Victoria is so pretty, no photos but.

Picked up the canopyImagecool stickerz Image
Black vinyl roof will come up perfect. Fittings are crusty, otherwise just needs sand and paint and rubbers.

Very friendly bloke, Stuart McDonald, still got his first car on full reg, a perfect Karrmen Ghia. Showed me all his cars, trucks, oh and the tank. 39 &*#@ truck powered, towed by special Holden bodied chev truck. Holden may have built the tank. Former daily driver 350 powered Holden body chev ute also on full reg. Early 50s I think. Sorry, no photos, as I was too polite to ask.

I didn’t see them but the Brisbane boys flew in for a smash and grab raid. Can’t believe I beat Tim to the “EK ute tailgate” badge. 8) 8)

Nice to cross the border back in to SA, after being chased down by the constabulary at Apsley for the dodgy plate on my trailer, and breathod.

I finally found "Magnet's yard" at Bangham, just over the SA border. I didn't look very inviting, but there was an almost completely faded sign on the gate with a number. Unfortunately the mobile reception was very poor. I will try again soon.

Then a second breathalyser at Littlehampton, after calling in on a mate on the way home. Luckily only for a cup of tea...
