Roll pin. Well done. I bought a wagon tailgate to get the handle for my van. Then sold the tailgate on, less $50. Bargain. Haven't wondered out how to get it apart yet although I have the pin out.

I think I was a little careful on the depth of the drilling, I drilled through the alloy handle and about 2-3 mm into the steel shaft - then tapped the handle. I added the grub screw. And checked the depth every 1/2 turn of the Allen key until it was super solid, checking the lock mechanism at every interval.
All Working well. A 10 minute job that took an hour. :)

good result
When you're faced with an unpleasant task that you really don't want to do, sometimes you just have to dig deep down inside and somehow find the patience to wait for someone else to do it for you.
